Archdeacon Will 1647A #05 Braddan will of Nicholas Oates, died January 1646/7: 
Summary: wife is alive, old father xxxx Oates is alive, son John, dau Mary & dau Isabel [married David Christian] & dau Ellin & dau Margaret; witnesses: 
Patrick Thompson & Philip Moore, pledges: Giles Kemaine/Caveen & Paul Bridson.
Braddan parish register:  Nicolas Oats buried 10 January 1646/7.
Self: 1635 Liber Vastarum, Onchan: Nicholas Oates bought a cottage of 12d rent from Donold/Daniel Corrin & his wife, and was entered for it in 1635.
Self: 1636 Liber Vastarum, Onchan: Nicholas Oates bought a cottage of 4d rent from the overseers of David Murrey, & was entered for it in 1636.
Self & dau & son in law: 1678 Liber Vastarum, Onchan: Nicholas Oates was entered for a cottage of 12d rent, & in 1678, his dau Isabel Oates & her 
husband Daniel Christian were entered by virtue of a contraction bargain from the wife of the said Nicholas Oates, & on the proof of several witnesses 
of the contraction.
Self & dau & son in law: 1678 Liber Vastarum, Onchan: Nicholas Oates was entered for a cottage of 4d rent, & in 1678, his dau Isabel Oates & her husband 
David Christian were entered by virtue of a contraction bargain from the wife of the said Nicholas Oates, & on the proof of several witnesses of the 
contraction.
Dau etc: 1683: Old Onchan Deeds/Sales bundle 2 #21: date 11 November 1683 Douglas: Regarding a controversy between Isabel Christian alias Oates & Thomas 
Stephen [?stepson of Averick]: Isabel Christian alias Oates recited that the difference between David Christian (her husband) and Thomas Steane/Stephen 
regarding cottage house & garden of 12d rent formerly helf by Averick Quay alias Oates & sold by her to David Christian: It was agreed that Thomas Stephen 
was to give 4s 6d per year to David Christian during the life of Averick Quay alias Oates and to keep the house in sufficient repair, and after the death 
of Averick [she died 1696], Thomas Stephen was to pay £3 9s 6d (in 3 installments) in consideration of which £3 10s 6d the said David Christian & wife 
Isabel Christian alias Oates sold their interest in the said house to Thomas Stephen, witnesses: James Radcliffe & Philip Lewaige X & William Craine X 
& William Flexney; 1704: Isabel Christian alias Oates relict of David Christian acknowledges the £3 10s 6d.

      Braddan parish: David Christian son of David Christian born about 1676, having children in 1690s, married Barbara Moore.
