Archdeacon Will 1656A #16 German will of Christian Oates alias Crellin alias Gell alias Stephen, dated 25 August 1656:
Summary: 1st husband xxxx Gell, & 2nd husband xxxx Crellin, & 3rd husband [Thomas] Oates of BallaOates [probably previously married, died abt 1650, EpW
bks 1647-1650], son & executor Daniel/Donold Crellin; granddau Jane Crellin, gdau Margaret Crellin, son Robert Crellin, son John Gell, dau Margaret Oates
(married John Quirk), also: Ellin Cubbon, witnesses: William Cosnahan & William Corrin, pledges: William Cooper & William Gell, also: [son in law] John
Quirk entered a claim for half an oxe & half a cow, son John Gell entered a claim for 6s.
NOTE,
Granddaus Jane & Margaret appear to be of age (at least 14), which means their father (probably Robert Crellin, who would have received a dowry &
thus would not be an executor) married in the late 1630s, & was born about 1615.
Brother Daniel/Donold Crellin is probably younger, perhaps born about 1620.
A Philip Crellin died in early 1630s, see EpW books 1632/1634 German, and may be Christian Stephen's husband. The dates fit.
Margaret Oates probably married about 1655 (she was married, but had no children yet), giving her a birth date of about 1633.
Margaret's father Thomas Oates died about 1650, EpW books 1647-1650 German.
John Gell was left a cow jointly with halfbrother Robert Crellin, perhaps an indication that John was also married, especially since he was not
named as an executor. He is probably the oldest child, with 'Ryd' Gell (EpW bks 1616-1620), or Patrick Gell (EpW bks 1613-1616) fitting the bill
as his father. There are other possibilities.
With daughter Margaret's birth date around 1633, Christian's birth date was probably about 1590, which fits with the above dates.
Also NOTE, that Thomas Oates was probably married before, since only a fourth of the farm was Christian's. Half of the farm normally belongs to the
wife in German parish, unless she is the 2nd, etc., wife, and then she is entitled/owns only half of the half, with the other half belonging to the
first spouse's children/family. The same would hold true for a 2nd husband as it does for a 2nd wife.
