Archdeacon Will 1659A #69 Maughold will of Duncan Costeen, died 12 February 1658/9: 
Summary: wife [Joney Corteen] is dead [her will ArW 1630A #63 Maughold], dau Catharine, dau Margaret, son William and son John, witnesses: Robert Allen & 
William Christian, pledge: James Colleish/Quilleash & Patrick Coll-----, also: James Colleish/Quilleash entered a claim for 2 days plowing & corn.
Will of wife: ArW 1630A #63 Maughold will of Joney Costeen alias Corteen, died 23 August 1630: husband [Duncan] Costeen is alive [his will ArW 1659A #69 
Maughold], son William, dau Margaret, dau Catharine Costeen, brother Richard Corteen, witnesses: Gilno Costeen and Annas Taggart; pledge: John Corkill.
?Will of father: ArW 1637A #153 Maughold will of Donald/Daniel Costeen, died 2 June 1637: wife Christian Wright remarried xxxx Cubbon [she died 1666, 
Episcopal will], underage child, father is alive, also: John Cannell, witnesses: John Costeen & William Cottingham, pledges: William Cottingham/Cottiman 
& the wife.
Self & son: 1666 Composition Book, Lonan parish: Land last compounded for 4s 6d, by Edward Corkill fine for a term or 21 years, & sold to Duncan Costeen, 
and his son William Costeen had it by bargain of contract, & William was to pay consideration money for half the land to the executors of Duncan Costeen.
Self: 1657 Liber Vastarum, Maughold: Donold/Dugald/Duncan Callin had two parcels of intack land of 2d & 6d yearly rent belonging to Lewaigue treen, and his 
children Henry Callin & Catharine Callin sold the parcels to Duncan Costeen for 18s 4d, and Duncan was behind in payment of the 18s 4d, so that the said 
Callins sued him for the sum, whereupon it was paid, that is 5s 9d, and Duncan Costeen was entered for the two parcels in 1657.
Self: 1658 Liber Vastarum, Maughold: Donold [sic]/Duncan Costeen had farmland of 10s 6d rent in Cornay Beg treen, and he went to the Court and surrendered 
the parcel of quarterland of 3s singls rent into the Lord's hands; the governor gave order to the moar of Maughold to give notice in the parish church to 
know if anyone would come forth and compound for it and be entered as tenant for it, so that it did not fall into decay.  
Self etc: 1661 Liber Vastarum, Maughold: Donold[sic]/Duncan Costeen had farmland/quarterland of 14s 10 1/2d yearly rent in Ballaskebagg treen, and he 
traded it for other land from John Cannon, & John afterwards sold half to Donold[sic]/David Cowle and his wife Christian Bretraugh/Bretney/Cretney who 
were entered for 7s 3 3/4d rent, & now David was dead & his son William Cowle was entered for the half by virtue of his father's last will & testament 
(ArW 1660A #50 Maughold) & wife Christian Bretney/Cretney was also entered for her part, also, William Callow was entered for 3d single rent by sale from 
Donold/Duncan Costeen & Donold[sic]/David Cowle, per Court proceedings dated 11 June 1668.   NOTE, that Christian died 1667, ArW 1667A #28 Maughold.
   ?Grandson Simon: 1676 Liber Vastarum, Maughold: Patrick Kerruish had a parcel of intack land of 1d rent belonging to Ballure treen, & Patrick was dead, 
   so the right of the 1d rent fell to his son John Kerruish who sold it to Simon Costeen, who was entered for it in 1676.
?Son & grandson Simon:  1678 Liber Vastarum, Maughold:  William Costeen has farmland of 3d rent in Ballure treen, and he sold it to his son Simon Costeen, 
who was entered for it in 1678.  
   ?Grandson Simon: 1681 Liber Vastarum, Maughold: Simon Costeen has farmland of 3d rent in Ballure treen, and he sold land of 2d rent to Nicholas 
   Christian who was entered for the 2d rent in 1681.
   ?Grandson: Lezayre parish register: Simon Costen buried 16 June 1714.
   ?Grandson: Maughold burial register: Simon Costen  bur 17 Jun 1714.
   ?Grandson Simon: 1694 Petition (5 June 1694) of Ewan Curghey & Simon Costeen, millers, whose mill was used by others one Sunday, 
   for which they were censured.
?Self ('Don Costeen'): 1704 Composition Book, Maughold: Robert Costeen was entered for 2d rent in the How, & 1d in Close Callin, & 6d in Keon na Henning & 
another 2d rent in Keon na Henning, & 4d in Crote Callin, plus 2s 8d yearly rent that was compounded in 1643 by Don Costeen, fine 5s; Lives expired & the 
rest not compounded for.

Ballashalhaige of 17s double rent, compounded first in 1643 by William Corteen, Lives are currently expired.

One life in being so to pay now for this 9s & 12d intack and the remainder of the said rent being 13s was compounded for by the said Wm Quark with another 
quarter of 16s called Rencullen of 16s double rentfine for all was 15s. One life in being so to pay for this 13s reserving the right of Jo Kermeene and 
Jane the daughter of John Quark his wife to 4s part of the above rent called the Lackan.

Maughold ---- 7th 1659 The last will and testament of Doncan Costen who departed this life ffebruary 12th 1658. Inprmis he bequeathed to his daughter Katharin Costen halfe his qter of ----[torn edge] croppe of coarne, halfe a maire, a qter of a fallowe cowe, half a calf of a yeare old. Itt, to James Collish 2 pottles of oats. Itt, he constituted & appointed to his daughter Margret Costen halfe executor of all the rest of his goods moveable & unmoveable, & his two sonnes vidz Willm: & John Costen joynt executor of the other halfe 2nd June The Exec sworne Probat et Solvit 1s 1659 Testes Robt Allen Wm Christin An Inventory of the goode of ye above named Doncan Costen taken & priced by Wm Christin, Do: Cowle, Jo: Quarke & Wm Lowney jurati.
