German the 26th of October 1677 The last will and testament of James Cowle who departed this life the 4th [or ‘7th’] of februarie 1676, first he bequeathed his soule to God and his body to Christian buriall, It he left to his brother his clothes, It: he left to Sr John Woods a sheep, and constituted and ordained his daughter Christian Cowle his true and lawfull excec: of all his goods, and if they child should dye before she came to lawfull yeares the goods to returne to the next of kindred testes John Woods } Probatum et solvit xijd James Cowle } jurati Salvo tamen vincuig Nichol Coule the decedts: brother is suo jure sworn in Court to be supvisor of the child An Invent wthin 14 dayes sub paena xs[10s] The rest of ye Invr given to Mr Ffox to be added wn: returned [next page] Michaell 1677 More to be added to the Inventory of James Cowle junr as followeth forty stooks of oats fifteene 15 stookes & a halfe of } £ s d barley & three & a half of wheate with other small }... 03 - 00 - 00 utinsells wch were not prized before amount to in all} In Money wch is yet in ye hands of his brother Nich: } Cowle ...........................................}....... 03 - 00 - 00 The 3£ in moneys are in the hands of Nicholas Cowle who hath given pledges according to law Hen: Woods of K Michaell, and Ratcliffe Tubman of K German The other pt in corn is in the hand of Kath Corris the wife who hath given pledges She wth her husband is bound sub paena xs[10s] to bring in pledges at the next cort: [found several pages later, after ArW 1677A #062 German:] february ye 2 1686/7 These are to certyfye that I John Leecs of the parris of KK German; doe one and confess to have pade to Nicholas Coule one the behalfe of Katren: Corris the full and just sum of 16s and this I will depose upon oath if neede require as wittness my hand John Leecs Likewise I the sd Katren Corris gave to the foresd Nickolas Coule the som of foure shillings which 4 shillings aded to the above 16 makes one pound These are to certyfye that I John Crelling of the parris of KK German doe one and confess to have pade to Nickolas Coule the full and just sum of twenty shillings and the which sum of 20s I paid one the behalfe of Kkatren Corris; and this I can depose upon oath if ever require as witness my hand Joh: Crelling his mark X Likewise the yeare that the sd Nickolas was more that he had 20s in an ox that I sould and lefe the sd sum of 20s in his hand which sum of 20s aded to the above sumes doeth compleat the sum of three pounds these are to certyfye that I Hinry Watterson of Peele towne doe confess to have paid to Nickolas Coule the some of seven shillings one the behalf of Katren Corris; this I can depose one oath as wittness my hand Henry Waterson besides the sd Nickolas had 8s in halfe a hors from ----- Katren Corris These we to certyfye [on the back of the above page] May 31st 1687 All pties now concerned in ye will & goods of James Cowle vizt: Patr: Cowle & his mother Margrett in behalf of ye dead, & Cathrine Corras ye relict of ye sd James & now wife of Gilbt: Clucas came this day & accounted touching ye goods in ye sd Cathrines hand; and John Leece, John Crellin, Hen: Waterson & ye sd Cathrine have made it appeare yt all ye within several sums are truly & fully paid; save only ye 8s for half ye horse wch is referred to further triall upon sight of ye Inventory from ye Bops: Registry if it may be found & therewith all pties are well satisfied et all this before me Sam: Watleworth Registr:
