This is affirmed to be the last will & testament 
of James Tear, who departed this life about 
ye 25 March 1720, being in perfect mind & 
memory at the making thereof.  
First, He committed his soul to God & body 
to Christian burial.   
Item, He left to his eldest son John Tear half 
the crop, & half the team, with half the 
husbandry gears. Item, He left that the sheep 
shud be divided equally betwixt his sd son 
John and his mother, or to be equally 
concern'd in them.   
Item, He left to his son James Tear a pair 
of looms & twenty shillings as legacy, with 
an heifer of two years old; And whatever 
sheep were named upon him, that he shud 
have them to himself.   
Item, He delcar'd that there was 18s due 
to Mally Sayle;  ten shillings to Cath: Skinner;  
three shillings to Philip Fargher;  And he 
order'd his eldest son John to pay a third 
part of these debts, out of half of the crop 
& team. Lastly, He constituted & appointed 
his wife sole & lawful Execrx of all the rest 
of his goods moveable & immoveable 
whatever; with a young [stone] horse of 
four years old to her, as legacy.
