At KK Michael, Sept 1723
WM CHRISTIAN of Douglas makes oath, that 
Capt NICH. CHRISTIAN SENIOR deceased, about 
six years ago by a letter sent to the 
Revd. Mr. ROBERT CHRISTIAN of Maughery 
gale, desired him to agree with WM CHRISTIAN 
& HIS WIFE then of Hill Hall for the 
maintenance of his illegitimate 
CHILD MARJERY CHRISTIAN, and that 
he this deponent along with the 
said Mr. CHRISTIAN to make the 
agreement, which was fifty two shillings 
per anno for meat, drink, lodging, and clothing.  
And the deponent further declares that 
the year following coming to this Island 
(where he stayed about 5 weeks) the above 
Capt CHRISTIAN sent by him fifty two 
shilling to the above said WM CHRISTIAN 
& HIS WIFE, which he delivered to them; 
and that when he left the Island, 
Capt CHRISTIAN desired him to tell them, 
he would (if an xxx aforesaid) send them 
moreover in barrels of herrings.

AT KK MICHAEL, SEPT 2 1723 
ANN CHRISTIAN, WIDOW OF WM CHRISTIAN 
within mentioned hath declared in Court 
that ye within oath of WM CHRISTIAN 
contains the agreement made betwixt her 
and Captn NICH: CHRISTIAN about his 
ILLEGITIMATE CHILD and that she is 
unpaid for three years past at xxxmas 
last [or left] of the same account, 
and this before us 
JO: CURGHEY, 
CHA: WATLEWORTH.         

AT KK MICHAEL, SEPT 4, 1723: 
ELLIN CORRAS sworn and examined, deposes 
that Capt. NICH. CHRISTIAN SENR of Ramsey, 
about 16 days before his death, coming 
by her house asked her whether she knew 
of any ship or boat at Peel bound to 
Ireland, for he was indebted 2 years 
wages for maintaining his child.  
But that he would not send then but 
2 guineas, because he heard, there 
was not due care taken of the child, 
who (as he heard) went barehead & barefoot.  
ELLIN CORRAS her mark.    

JO. CORRAS deposes, that about 3 years 
ago, Capt CHRISTIAN going by his house, 
asked him out and desired him to go with 
him a part of the way, and upon some 
discourse concerning the child this 
deponent told him, he designed to go 
to Ireland, and that his SISTER would 
have him to bring home the child.  
To which the Captn answered, was 
she madxx for the child should never 
trouble her, nor put her to any expenses.

AT KK MICHAEL SEPT 24, 1723
UPON DUE CONSIDERATION of the 
above and annexed depositions, 
the Court does order the Executrix 
of Capt NICH. CHRISTIAN to pay for 
two years and 3 quarters wages and 
cost, vizt, four pounds eleven shillings, 
to ANN CHRISTIAN ALS CALLOW for 
the maintaining and bringing up 
of the illegitimate child begotten 
by the said Capt. CHRISTIAN and 
the within ELLIN CORRAS, which 
if the said Executrix ELLINOR THE 
WIFE OF MR. CHA: RATCLIFF refuses 
to pay within 14 days, the Sumner 
is to commit her into St German's 
Prison, there to remain till she 
submit to Law and pay all fees.  
And in case of disobedience, the 
assistance of a soldier is to be 
called for from the constable of 
Peel Garrison.

'Tis further that the said ELLIN 
CORRAS is to agree with ANN 
CHRISTIAN ALS CALLOW for maintaining 
and bring up her illegitimate CHILD 
by Capt. NICH: CHRISTIAN of Ramsey 
deceased, since the time of his death, 
that is from the 1st of May 1721, 
for half of the said charge & cost.  
Otherwise the said ELLIN CORRAS is 
to be committed by the Sumner of 
Ballaugh or a soldier from Peel 
Garrison, till she submits to Law.
