The last will and Testament of William Kewley of KK Lonnon who departed
this life about the 16th day of November last past in manner as follows
Being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory
first he Committed his Soul to God and next his body to the earth and to be
buried after a decent Christian manner
And as for his worldly Effects, as it pleas'd God to bless him with he
ordered them in the manner following
Imprimis he left and bequeathed unto his son & heir William Kewley all his
Lands of what kind and nature whatever, as also his part of the Crop, Team
and husbandry Gears, and likewise his part of the Goats, his part of the
Timber & Dales belonging unto his whole farm or Tennemant & to be used in
the said Tennement, but [..?..] his said son was not to Enjoy the aforesaid
particulars until he be thirty years of Age
Item he left and bequeathed unto his son John Kewley his Dunn Mares Colt
This we affirm to be the last will of the above said William Kewley witness
our hands this 15th of March 1735

At Douglas the 15th March 1735 The witnesses have now prov'd the Contents
of the above Will and agree further that about a week after the Dec'd had
expres'd himself as above, being to visit him on his death bed he Declared
that his Heir was not to have the purchas'd Land Call'd the Giary: Gloss —
Nor his son John the Colt of the Dunn Mare, and that he Cutt off his
Children wth Six pence each Legacy

At a Consistorial Chapter Court held in Douglas May the 19th 1736
The Testator having Nominated no Exer only as John Kewley one of the
witnesses released yt the .......... .....
and saying he Suppos'd yt he [designed ?] to make his wife Exectx the
Testatr reply'd wh else? And further that the Testatr assign'd as a Reason
for Cutting off his Children wth 6d apiece Legacy vizt that they would be
too [apt ?] to grow headstrong & despise their mother wh they got their
fortune into their own hands She the sd Wife & Relict vizt Isabl Kewley has
now offerd Twenty One pounds free & Debtless to her Seven youngest
Children, wch is by John Kewley the Son & Heir & his Bror Phil: consented
unto & by virtue of their Oath deem'd to be for the benefit of the sd
children Whereupon the Court accepts of the sd proposal and the wid: is
accordingly sworn Extx who has the Tuition of the Children & their Goods
She is also Sworn Overseer — together with the Heir & Philip the Brors at Age
