Philip Cowley departed this life about the beginning of the month of
December last past intestate.  The court having intelligence thereof hath
decreed his three children namely Elizth, John, and Catherin Cowley joint
administrators of all his goods and effects moveable and imoveable
whatsoever who being all under age their mother Catherin Cowley als
Christian is sworn to bring to the Registry a perfect inventory as also for
payment of debts according to law and to that end she has given pledges
namely Willm Graham of Douglas and Wm Christian of KK Bride. Patrick Cowley
John Cowley Willm Cowley and John Goldsmith (All brothers and brother in law
of Philip) the next relations are sworn overseers of the minors, and have
consented to deliver that the children and their goods shall remain in the
care and tuition of the widow. Decretum est.   Ro:Radcliffe, Mattw Curghey
A legacy to the widow on sight of the inventory.
Departed this life intestate, having died the beginning of month in December
last, leaving behind his three children, viz John, Elizabeth, and Catherine
Cowley, minors, and whereas their mother Catherine Cowley als. Christian is
very desirous to have the said children under her own tuition and
maintenance, hoping that the same may be for their better education.
It is this day agreed upon between the overseers of said children, viz next
of relations, Patrick Cowley, John Cowley, John Goldsmith and William
Cowley, and the said Catherine Cowley als. Christian that she is to pay unto
the said children the sum of 18 pounds in lieu of their Father's part of
goods, obliging herself to give in Bonds to the Register for the payment of
said sum, besides their learning and maintenance viz such learning as she
can afford them and for the punctual performance hereof of all parties
concerned do bind and oblige themselves heirs, executors, and administrators
under penalty of 10 pounds sterling according to law.
In witness whereof they have hereunto set their names this 9th July 1751.
