58           Lezayre
The last will and testament of Mr. ROBERT CORLET of 
Churchtown in the parish of KK Christ Lezaire who 
departed this life upon the 1st day of this Instant 
month of April 1754, being of sound mind and memory 
at the making hereof about the 24th of February next 
before preceding.  
First he committed his soul to God and his body 
to Christian burial.  
Item, he left and bequeathed to his SON ROBERT all 
his part of the houses and gardens at Church town, 
where he lived, together with his part of 
Glandtramman's meadow, and the same to be enjoyed 
by his said SON ROBERT when he attains the age of 
21 years or as soon as he shall have learned a trade; 
he his said SON ROBERT paying to HIS SISTER DOROTHY 
the sum of five pounds when he possesses the premises 
before mentioned, and he left the whole benefit of 
the said houses gardens and meadow to his loving 
WIFE and his SON THOMAS to maintain his said SON 
ROBERT and bear his necessary expenses (until he 
should have learned his trade as aforesaid) and 
in case his said SON ROBERT dies without lawful 
issue to enjoy the same, then the premises to fall 
as inheritance to his SON JOHN and in case his said 
SON JOHN died without lawful issue to enjoy the 
premises, the same to fall and descend as inheritance 
to his SON JAMES, and afterwards to fall and go as 
inheritance to the next succeeding male child 
according to Law.  
Item, he left and bequeathed to his SEVEN CHILDREN 
vizt, ELIZABETH, MARGARET, DOROTHY, MARY, JOHN, JANE 
AND JAMES fifteen pounds apiece as legacy, to be paid 
unto them respectively as they shall attain unto the 
age of 14 years if they shall be pleased to demand the 
same and in case any of his four youngest children 
dies underage, then the legacy left to such child or 
children who shall or may so die under age to fall 
to whoever of the said four youngest children shall 
then be alive to enjoy the same, and the rest of the 
eldest children to have no part thereof.  
Item, he left all his part of the sheep in KK Patrick 
to his loving WIFE and his DAUGHTER MARGARET equally 
between them.  
Item, he declared that the big black cow and her calf 
belonged to his DAUGHTER ELIZABETH by accounts betwixt 
him and his said DAUGHTER.  
Item, he left to the poor of the parish of Lezaire 
ten pounds, and the same to be laid out upon interest 
for the poor's use.  
Lastly, he constituted, nominated, ordained and 
appointed his dutiful and well loved SON THOMAS CORLETT 
sole and whole Executor of all the rest of his goods, 
chattels, credits and effects of what kind, nature or 
denomination soever.  
And in case his said SON THOMAS CORLETT dies without 
lawful issue to enjoy what comes due to him as Executor 
of this Will, then his said son ROBERT CORLETT is to 
have and enjoy all the goods, chattels and effects 
which becomes due to the Executor by this Will but 
in that case he the said ROBERT or his issue to be 
deprived and excluded from the benefit of what is 
before left and bequeathed him by this Will, and 
HIS BROTHER JOHN in that case is to enjoy what was 
left to the said ROBERT, and in case the said ROBERT 
died without lawful issue to enjoy the Executorship 
then HIS BROTHER JOHN is to succeed him therein, and 
JAMES to have what became due to JOHN, and so from 
child to child and their lawful issue successively 
according to Law.  
The Testator likewise left six pence apiece to each 
person that would claim or pretend any right to his 
goods after his decease and half a crown each to the 
witnesses of this his Will.

AT LEZAYRE APRIL 18TH 1754
EDWARD CROW & DOROTHY CRAIN the witnesses to the above 
will have proved the same in form of Law. Whereupon 
the Executor is sworn for payment of debts and legacies, 
to which end he has given pledges, namely John Gill senr 
of Churchtown and Edwd Crow one of the witnesses of the Will.

AT A CHAPTER COURT AT LEZAYRE JUNE 11TH 1754
DOROTHY CRAIN one of the witnesses to the will of 
Mr. RO:CORLET deposes that the Testator some time 
before he made his will told the Deponent that he 
was in some doubt whether or no he had paid a legacy 
of five pounds which his SISTER IN LAW MRS. MARY 
CORLETT had bequeathed to the poor of Lezayre and 
for that reason he would leave the sum of ten pounds 
in his will to the said poor that they might not be 
sufferers.  
And whereas the Executor THOMAS CORLETT has this 
day produced a Record under the hands of the Vicar 
and Wardens of Lezayre that the said Legacy has 
been discharged, the Court therefore recommends it 
to the Vicar and Wardens to accept of and receive 
the sum of five pounds only in full satisfaction 
for the Legacy of the ten pounds bequeathed in said will.  
Wherewith the said Vicar and Wardens are satisfied.

AT A CHAPTER COURT AT LEZAYRE 11TH JUNE 1754
THOMAS CORLET & ELIZABETH CORLET are sworn supervisors 
of their brethren and sisters under age, and 
the goods of said children are committed unto 
THOMAS who has given pledges for forthcoming 
of the same namely Capt. WILLIAM CALLOW of 
Claghbane and JOHN GILL of Lezayre.

Let this be annexed immediately after the 
probate of the will.  Published June 11th 1754.              

APR 2ND 1754
MR. PHILIP MOORE enters a claim against the Executor 
of ROBT CORLET for the sum of 30 pounds British, and 
craves the Law.

AT KK MICHAEL JUNE 13TH 1754
The Reverend Mr. PHILIP MOORE  in behalf of 
Mr. EDWARD MOORE xxx x Gleysper[?] against the Executor 
of ROBERT CORLETT for the sum of eighteen pounds, 
and craves the Law. Exam per Matth Curghey Ar. Regr.   

AT LEZAYRE SEPR 14TH 1754
THOMAS CORLETT the Executor as also his MOTHER 
ELIZABETH CORLETT acknowledging the sum of 
thirteen pounds due to Mr. Edward Moore the claimant, 
xx appears also by Specialty bearing date 12th May 1750, 
ordered that the Dead's part thereby be discharged, 
subpoena juris with all fees. Matth. Curghey.  
To the Sumner of Lezayre, who if disobeyed is to 
apply for a soldier.          

LEZAYRE AUGUST 3RD 1754
JOHN MCYLCHARANE of [blank space] acknowledging himself 
to be indebted to Mr. ROBT CORLETT late of Lezayre 
the sum of three shillings. Ordered that the dead's 
part thereof be discharged to THOS.CORLETT the Executor. 
Subpoena juris with all fees.

AUGUST 16TH 1754
BRIDGET COTTIMAN of Lezayre acknowledging herself to 
be indebted to THOS. CORLETT as Executor to his 
Father Mr. ROBERT CORELTT late of Lezayre the sum 
of three shillings and three pence. Ordered that she 
do forthwith discharge the clame, the Dead's part 
thereof.  Subpoena juris with all fees.

AT LEZAYRE AUGUST 16TH 1754
It Appearing by specialty bearing date 13th August 
1746 that WILLIAM CROW was indebted to ROBT CORLETT 
late of Churchtown the sum of four pounds sixteen 
shillings, Ordered that the Dead's part thereof xxxxx 
two pounds eight shillings, as also the farther sum 
of one pound two shillings and two pence, being the 
Dead's part of the interest thereon, as xxxxxx, be 
discharged to THOMAS CORLETT Executor of said ROBERT 
CORLETT. Subpoena juris with all fees.

To the Sumner of Lezayre, who if disobeyed is to apply 
for a soldier.          

JANUARY 24, 1755
THOMAS COTTIER of Lezayre acknowledging himself 
indebted to THOMAS CORLETT as Executor of his 
father ROBT CORLETT the sum of two shillings in 
past of all accounts. Ordered that the same be 
discharged, subpoena juris with all fees.

APRIL 4TH 1755: XXXXX CORLETT enters his claim against 
the Executors of will ROBT CORLETT for 50 pounds 20 shillings 10 pence.         

APRL 17TH 1755
JON: CORLETT enters a claim against the Executor of Mr. 
ROBERT CORLETT for 50 pounds.         

MAY 2ND 1755
WM CORRIS enters a claim for 1 pound 7 shillings, being his wages.           

MAY 24, 1755
THOMAS CORLETT enters a claim against the Executor of 
Mr. ROBT CORLETT for 5 shillings.        

Novbr 28TH 1755
WILLIAM CROW enters a claim against the Executor of 
Mr. ROBT CORLETT for 15 pounds.           

AT LEZAYRE DECR 12TH 1755
JOHN CORLETT of Ballaugh (smith) having acknowledged 
himself indebted unto ROBT CORLETT of Lezayre deceased 
in the sum of fifteen shillings and eight pence on 
account of the tithes of the Lord Bishop's Turbery 
in the said parish of Ballaugh due at Easter 1753, 
said CORLETT whereby ordered forthwith to discharge 
the foresaid sum of fifteen shillings and eight pence 
to the Executors and relict of said CORLETT equally 
between them.

27TH AUGT 1762
THIS DAY ELIZABETH ANDREWS OTHERWISE CORLETT DAUGHTER 
of the within Testator Mr ROBERT CORLETT acknowledged 
that she hath received from her BROTHER THOMAS ARTHUR 
CORLET the sum of fifteen pounds being the Legacy 
which was bequeathed her by her said father, as also 
that she hath received the cow which was left her by 
her said father, and doth hereby acquit and discharge 
her said BROTHER THOMAS ARTHUR CORLETT his executors, 
administrators and assigns thereof forever. 
Before me, John Gill, Ar.Regr.            

WE JOHN CORLETT & JAMES CORLETT SONS OF THE before 
mentioned TESTATOR MR. ROBERT CORLETT do hereby acknowledge 
to have each of us received from our BROTHER THOMAS 
CORLETT the several and respective sums of fifteen 
pounds being the Legacies left and bequeathed unto 
us by our said Father, and we do hereby acquit release 
and discharge our said brother and his Executor 
thereof forever. 
Witness our hands this 15th Novr 1768,

I ELIZABETH CORLETT of Churchtown and the WIDOW of 
MR. ROBERT CORLETT and Executor of my DAUGHTER MARY 
CORLET deceased do hereby acknowledge to have received 
from my SON THOMAS CORLET Executor of my said Husband 
the sum of fifteen pounds being in full of the legacy 
bequeathed by my said late Husband to my said DAUGHTER 
MARY CORLET deceased and do hereby acquit and release 
my said son THOMAS CORLET his Executors and assigns 
the same forever. Witness my subscription this 15th 
Novr 1768,

APRIL 8TH 1776
I JAMES CLARKE HUSBAND OF JANE CORLET one of the 
within named seven children of the within Testator 
ROBERT CORLETT do acknowledge to have received from 
my BROTHER IN LAW THOMAS ARTHUR CORLETT the sum of 
fifteen pounds being a Legacy bequeathed my said 
WIFE JANE CORLET by her said father, and I do 
hereby acquit release and discharge my said BROTHER 
IN LAW THOMAS ARTHUR CORLETT his executors 
administrators and assigns of said Legacy forever. 
Witness my hand the day and date above writer,
