In the name of God Amen. We Daniel Lace of Ballavoddan, 
one of the Deemsters of this Isle, and Jane Lace als 
Christian, my wife, being of sound and perfect mind and 
memory (thanks be to God) but calling to mind the 
uncertainty of this life, do make this our joint last 
will and testament in manner following
First, we and each of us do commit our soul to God and 
our bodies to Christian burial. 
Secondly, we leave and bequeath to every and each of 
our children, namely Jane, Catharine, Esther, Mary, 
Christian, & Alice, the sum of one hundred and twenty 
pounds apiece to be unto them paid and given, when 
they respectively arrive at the age of twenty one years, 
or upon their marriages, by the survivor of us the said 
Daniel Lace and Jane my wife. That is to say, the one 
half or moiety of the said several respective legacies 
to be paid at the time before mentioned and the other 
moiety at the decease of such survivor unless it is the 
pleasure of such survivor to give the whole thereof together. 
Item, we leave to Daniel Gelling & Elizabeth his wife, 
our son in law & daughter, the sum of twenty pounds. 
Item, we leave bequeath and devise unto our eldest daughter 
Ann, or whomsoever of our children our said Estate of 
Ballavoddan &c shall descent to as inheritance all and 
every flat or those small parcels of intack lands by us 
lately purchased to from Daniel Hanson, Wm Lace & 
John Garret, and the same at after to pass as heirship 
or lands of ingeritance. 
Lastly, we nominate & appoint the survivor of us to be 
the other’s lawful executor, vizt., I the said Daniel 
Lace (in case it shall please God to call for me before 
my said wife) do nominate constitute and appoint my said 
loving wife Jane Lace my true and lawful executrix of 
this my last will and testament and of all the residue 
and remainder of all my worldly goods effects moveable 
and immoveable whatsoever. And I will and desire that 
my said wife shall have the tuition of my children with 
these goods until they come of lawful years as aforesaid. 
And likewise that my two brothers Charles & William Lace 
shall be guardians of my said children, by and with 
the advice and … the direction of my very good friends 
Daniel Mylrea Esquire, Receiver General, the Revd. William 
Mylrea Archdeacon, and the Revd. James Wilks or any 
two of them. And I the said Jane Lace do nominate constitute 
and appoint my said husband Daniel Lace (in case he 
survives me) my true and lawful executor in like manner 
and to all intents and purposes as is specified and 
expressed in and by the last preceding clause. 
In testimony of which we have hereunto subscribed our 
names this 19th January 1762.

The Worshipful Daniel Lace having survived his late wife 
Mrs. Jane Lace the testatrix, he the said Daniel Lace is 
sworn executor in court I form of law and has given pledges 
for the payment of debts and legacies namely, Mr. John Qullin, 
Attorney General, and Mr Wm Cubbon, Deputy General Sumner
