In the name of God, Amen.  I Grace Christian alias Black the Relict & Widow of Capt: 
Thos: Christian of the Town of Ramsey Dec’ being sick & weak in body, but of Sound
& Disposing mind & memory praised be God (do for avoiding Controversies after my
Decease) make publish, & Declare this my Last Will & Testamt in manner following:   
Imprs, I recommend my Soul to God that gave it, and my Body to a Christian burial, 
and as for such worldly goods as God has been pleased to bless me with, I Bequeath 
and dispose thereof as followeth:    That is to Say, I leave & bequeath to my 
daughter Eliz: Christian the little dwelling house (that is between our present 
dwelling house and John Gawn’s house wherein Mrs Ann Vincily now dwelleth) 
together with eighty five pounds Manks currency the same including her Father’s 
Legacy, and also a furnished feather bed as it stands in the parlour & three pair 
of sheets, two brass candlesticks, six pewter plates, three chairs, one pair of 
blankets, one trunck, two table cloths, a tea table, a round oake table, and a 
silver spoone, as Legacy and the same to be possessed & enjoyed by her as soon 
as she arrives to lawfull age, but if in case my sd Daughter Eliz: shall die e’re 
then, the whole of these to fall to become to hir sister Margaret if living.     
Item, I leave & bequeath to my Daughter Margaret Christian, the sum of one 
hundred & fifteen pounds Manks currency, the same including hir father’s legacy, 
a furnished feather bed as it stands in the closed above stairs, three pair of 
sheets, two brass candlesticks, six pewter plates, three chaires, one pair of 
blankets, a large fur chest, a little square oake table, two table clothes, & a 
silver spoone as Legacy, and the same to be possessed & enjoyed by her as soon 
as she come to Lawfull age, but if in case my sd Daughter Margaret shall die 
e’re then, and that her beforesd sister Eliz: Christian be living then all or 
the whole of these to fall & become due to her.  
Item, I leave & bequeath all my shaped apparel both linnen & woolen to be
jointly between my sd two daughters Elizabeth and Margret Christian.     
Item, I leave & bequeath six pence legacy to each craver who will sue
to breake or disannul this my last will & testament.     
Item, I leave two shills to each of the witnesses of this will.    
And lastly I leave my daughters Elizabeth and Margaret Christian with the goods 
due unto them in the hands of my dutifull son Edward Christian, till they come 
to fourteen years of age, and I do appoint my sd son Edwd Christian and my 
nephew William Martin to be their guardians & supervisors until then, And I do 
nominate constitute and appoint him aforesd vizt: my dutiful son Edward Christian 
whole & sold Executor of all the rest of my goods & chattels of what kind or 
nature soever.  
In witness whereof, I have caused my usual mark to be sett to my name and have 
hereunto affixed my seal this the 16th Day of January 1764.

At a Consistory Court holden at KK Michael Feb. 24. 1764:  
Edward Christian the Execr is sworn in Court in form of Las & has the Gurdion of 
the children under age & their goods committed unto him pursuant to the Will, 
he with Willm: Martin the other testamentary Guardians are also sworn supervisors 
& guardians of sd Children in form of Law.  
Pledges for Payment of Debts & Legacies are Thos: Corlet of Lezayre & 
Wm Christian (vadge) one of the witnesses of the Will.  
An Inventory of the Legacies left & bequeathed to sd Children is to be returned 
to the Registry by sd Execr.

Lezayre 24th Decr 1765: 
I Elizabeth Christian daughter of Capt Thos: Christian late of Ramsey & Grace 
Christian als Black his wife both decd being at lawful years to receive the 
several Legacies bequeathed & left unto me by my sd mother Grace Christian do 
hereby acknowledge to have received at & from the hands of my brother Edward 
Christian Execr of the last will & Testamt of my said mother the several 
Legacies hereafter mentioned which were left & bequeathed unto me by my sd 
decd mother, vizt: eighty five pounds Manks Currency, the same including the 
legacy left unto me by my late Father, as also a furnished feather bed, 
three pair of sheets, two brass candlesticks, six pewter plates, three chairs, 
one pair of blankets, one trunk, two table clothes, a tea table, a round oak 
table & a silver spoon, as also my share or proportion of my mother’s shaped 
apparel linnen and woolen; all which legacies I have received from my said 
brother Edward Christian and do hereby discharge acquit & release him my sd 
Brother his Excrs Admrs & Assigns thereof forever, reserving to my own use the 
little dwelling house left & bequeathed unto me by my said mother & as specified 
in her sd will, as witness my subscription the day month & year above written.

At KK Maughold June 20 1770: 
Grace Christian alias Black of the town of Ramsey having by her last will & 
testament bearing date the 16th day of January 1764, & proved the 24th Febry 1764 
among other things bequeathed unto her daughter Margt Christian the sum of one 
hundred & fifteen pounds & appointed her son Edward Christian Exr of sd Will as 
also Guardian & Supervisor, & the sd Margt Christian having caused Edward 
Christian her sd Brother & Guardian to be charged before me for recovery of 
foresaid Legacy And sd Edward Christian having produced a bill of sundry 
payments made her which amounts to £12.15.9 ½ of which sum of £12.15.9 ½ the 
sum of £10.3.3 ¼ has been paid her since she arrived at lawful age so that there 
remains a balance of £104:16:8 ¾ due to Margt Christian aforesaid which sum of 
one hundred & four pounds sixteen shillings & eight pence three farthings the 
said Edward Christian is hereby ordered to discharge within fourteen days after 
notice.  And in case he neglects or fails to discharge the same he is to be 
committed until he submits to Law & pays all ffees.  Thos: Cubbon.    

To the Sumner of KK Mauhgold who if disobey’d to apply for a constable.

At KK Maughold 10th June 1771: I Margt Christian daughter of Capt Thos: Christian 
& Grace Christian als Black his wife both decd being arrived at lawful age do 
hereby acknowledge to have recd at & from ye hands of Edwd Christian Execr of 
the last will & testamt of my sd Mother the several legacies herein after 
mentioned which were bequeathed me by my sd Mother one hundred & fifteen pounds 
Manx currency the same including my Fathers legacy, a furnished feather bed as 
it stands in the closet above stairs, three pair of sheets two brass candlesticks 
six pewter plates three chairs one pair of blankets a large firr crest a little 
square oake table, two table cloaths & a silver spoon & also my share of my 
mothers shaped apparel linnen & woolen, And I do hereby acquit release and 
discharge my sd brother Edwd Christian his Execrs Admrs & Assigns of sd legacies 
on my part thereof forever.  
As witness my subscription the day & date above written, Margaret Christin.
