Know all men by these presents that I William Christian 
of the Town of Ramsey blacksmith divine good causes & 
reasons me thereunto moving but more especially for & [in] 
consideration of the natural Love and affection which h-----[torn] 
and do bear to my several Relations & Kinsfolk hereof----[torn] 
in this Deed mentioned, Have given granted settled passed 
over and estated, and by these presents do give grant s----[torn] 
Passover and estate unto and upon my several relations 
and kinsfolk herein after mentioned, all and ever my lands, 
houses, gardens, backsides, hayguards with all and every 
the appurtenances thereunto belonging situate in and about 
the town of Ramsey, as also in the parishes of KK Maughold 
and KK Christ Lezayre of whatever rents or denominations 
the same be, or are, as also all other my worldly goods and 
effects of every kind & nature soever after my decease in 
manner and form following, that is to say, First I do hereby 
give grant settle Passover and estate to and upon my Nephew 
Edmund Christian during his natural life and no longer, 
all and every my lands, houses, gardens, backsides, hayguards, 
and appurtenances thereunto belonging, wherever the same 
are situate, as well in & about the town of Ramsey, as in 
any other part of the parish of KK Maughold, and also in 
the parish of KK Christ Lezayre or wherever the same is 
situate (Excepting thet part or parcel of my land commonly 
called the Park Moar, which is herein & hereafter settled 
and estated on my Nephew William Christian, and excepting 
that house of mine wherein Thos Boddaugh late of Ramsey 
decd dwelt and resided, as also that garden belonging to 
me which John Cottier hatter occupies, which is also 
reserved and excepted for the use herein after mentioned) 
and I do in like manner settle & estate upon my sd Nephew 
Edmund Christian all and every my goods and effects of 
what kind or denomination soever to be at his own disposal 
for the payment of debts & legacies excepting the big table 
& frame, a trunk, a cupboard and a large pot, which are 
to pass & descent as corbs or heir l----[hidden in fold] 
to whomsoever my lands, houses, gardens backsides, hayguards 
and their appurtenances may hereafter fall or descend 
according to the direction of this Deed of Gift & Settlement, 
my said Nephew Edmund Christian being to have the use and 
benefit of the beforementioned lands, houses, gardens &c 
only for & during his own natural life and no longer, and 
then the said lands, houses, gardens, backsides & their 
appurtenances to descend and pass immediately after his 
decease to John Christian & William Christian the two sons 
of my Nephew John Christian of the parish of KK Christ 
Lezayre equally between them share & share alike, and in 
case either of the said two brothers John or William should 
die under age, then the survivor of them is to enjoy the 
others part thereof, and in case they should both die under 
age, then the said lands, houses, gardens backsides &c 
with their appurtenances are to descent & pass to my Nephew 
John Christian their father if he be then living, or in 
case he be dead to his lawful heir as inheritance, and I 
do also hereby require & enjoy my said Nephew Edmund Christian, 
who also at the time of the Execution hereof consents thereto, 
to pay unto his three sisters the sum of ten pounds each, 
for & in consideration of this settlement made upon him as 
aforesd during his natural life, besides paying all my just 
debts & funeral charges, And I do also hereby give grant 
settle Passover and estate forever to and upon my Nephew 
Willm: Christian all that parcel of land called the Park 
Moar situate in the parish of KK Maughold as also the sum 
of thirty pounds which is to be paid unto him the sd Willm 
Christian or his Excr by the sd John Christian & William 
Christian sons of my said Nephew John Christian immediately 
after the death of my nephew Edmund Christian or as sson 
as they shall be possessed of the aforesaid lands, houses, 
gardens &c or in case they or either of them should die 
before they possess the same, the said thirty pounds are 
to be paid unto my said nephew Wm Christian or his Excr 
by such person pr persons as shall possess the sd lands 
houses gardens &c after the sd Edmund Christian’s death.   
And I do also settle and estate upon my two nieces Margaret 
and Catharine Christian during their natural lives & the 
life of the longer liver of them, that house wherein Thos: 
Boddaugh late of the town of Ramsey decd formerly dwelt 
and resided, together with the garden which John Cottier 
hatter now occupies and possesses, and after their decease 
the same are to descent & pass with the other lands as 
before mentioned to John &Wm Christian sons of my nephew 
John Christian as inheritance, And lastly I do hereby 
nominate and appoint my three nephews John Christian, 
William Christian and Edmund Christian trustees of this 
my Deed of Gift & Settlement to see the same duly performed 
and executed, which they have accordingly at the time my 
signing hereof agreed and consented to undertake and perform.    
For the true & faithful performance of all which Deed of 
Settlement with all and every the clauses articles & 
covenants therein mentioned I the said William Christian 
do hereby bind and oblige myself my heirs excr admrs & 
assigns in the penalty & forfeiture of three thousand 
pounds sterling to be levied & paid according to the Law 
or practice of this Isle in such cases, In Testimony 
whereof I have hereunto set my mark to my name this 5th 
day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand 
seven hundred & sixty nine 1769.

April 18th 1769:  
The Revd John Gill and William Christian subscribing witnesses 
to the before written Deed & Settlement made oath upon the 
Holy Evangelist that they were personally by & present when 
William Christian late deceased signed & executed the same.

per Garff Sheading 5th May 1769
The beforegoing Deed of Settlement being proved before 
the Deemster and now openly published in Court and no 
objection offered against it, the same is therefore 
allowed off for and in the name and behalf of the most 
Noble John Duke of Atholl and Charlotte Duchess of 
Atholl Lord and Lady of the Mannor and confirmed by this Court.
