Summary: Petition by Thomas Cannell and William Corlett 10 December 1777.
Margaret Gelling died intestate early November 1777, husband William Gelling had put their infant child Catherine Gelling with a nurse and left the Isle 
leaving affairs confused.  Daughter Catherine Gelling administratrix.  Maternal relatives Thomas Cannel, John Quirk, and William Corlett (husbands of aunts), 
Mary Norris (aunt) & Charles Norris (uncle) are sworn her Guardians & Supervisors. Daughters goods and tuition are committed to father William Gelling, who 
is also sworn Guardian, return an Inventory and pay all debts.
Deceased: Margaret Gelling alias Norris (1756.1777), born Kirk Michael: Parents: Henry Norris (1720-1781) and Esther Creer (1721-1806).
Infant daughter: Catherine Gelling (born ~1776-7).
Guardians of Child: Thomas Cannell (?b. ~1742), husband of deceased's sister, Catherine Norris (b.1746).
Brother in law: John Quirk ( ? -1787), husband of deceased's sister, Christian Norris (1748- ? ).
Brother in law: William Corlett (b. ?), husband of deceased's sister, Isabel Norris (1750.1814).
Sister: Mary Norris (1758- ? ).
Brother: Charles Norris (1762- ? ).
Husband: William Gelling ( ? - ? ).

To the Revd. John Moore and Evan Christian Vicars Genl. of this Isle The Humble Petition of Thomas Cannell and Wm. Corlet both of the parish of Kk Michael for themselves and in the name of the rest of their Brothers and Sisters. Sheweth / That the Petr. [Petitioner] Thos. Cannell being marryed to Catherine Norris and the other Petr. Wm. Corlett being marryed to another Sister by name Isable Norris, and another of the sisters by Name, Margaret Norris having being marryed to one William Gelling of late of the Town of Douglas, and the sd. Margaret who was the wife of the Wm. Gelling having died Intestate sometime in or about the beginning of the month of Novr. [1777] last leaving a female Infant Child behind her, which Infant the sd. Wm. Gelling the Father did in a short time put to a nurse but how he disposed of the Goods the Petrs. are not certain of, But he the sd. Wm. Gelling directly found means to Get from off this Isle, leaving all his matters in a confusion behind him and no one to provide for, or take care of the sd. Infant and as your Petrs. are apprehensive that consequently the care and maintenance of the sd. child might fall on them and the rest of the next of Kin in proportion on the mother's side - after whatsoever Goods apportioned to the sd. Infant may be squandered. Your Petrs. therefore most humbly pray your Revces. to take this matter and cause to your most judicious Consideration, and to be Graciously pleased to Grant a Decree of the Administration of the Goods Chattles Creditts and Effects that apportains to the sd. Infant Child (by name Catherine) by the Decease of her sd. mother may be made and done by your Revd. Court, and that proper Guardians and Supervisors may be appointed and sworn by your Revd. Court to take Care of the sd. Infant and the managemt. of her Effects, and that all other things may be duly done and performed as the Ecclesiastical Laws and Constitutions of this Isle require in all cases f the like nature, whereby Justice may be done to the sd. Infant, and your Petrs. shall for ever pray. Ordered that the Matters of this Petr. come on to be heard at our next Consistory Court to be holden at Castletown 29th Janry. next [1778] Whereof all proper parties ?? also all the next of Kin to have due Notice of Service in the mean time the ???? to proceed ti take an Inventory of Deced. The Court having received Intelligence thereof hath Decreed her only Child namely Catherine Gelling administratrix of all her Goods & Chattels movable & immovable whatever, who being under age Thos. Cannel, John Quirk, Wm. Corlett, Mary Norris & Charles Norris her Uncles by the Mother's Side are sworn her Guardians & Supervisors, and by their Consent the Decd's Part of the said Child & her Goods are committed to the Tuition of Wm. Gelling her Father who is likewise sworn Guardian of the said Child, to return a perfect Inventory of the Goods & Effects of the said intestate to the Registry of this Court & to pay all her just Debts so far forth as her Goods will extend & the Law shall bind him & hath given Pledges in Form of Law namely Philip Cubbon of the Kk Marown & the sd.
