This is affirmed to be the Last Will and Testament of
Mary Garret wife of William Garret of Douglas
who departed this life the 26th day of December 1784
as by her made and declared in presence of the
subscribing Witness on said day.
First she left and bequeathed to her ten children
William, Philip, Elizabeth, John, Hugh, Paul,
Mary, Ann, Robert and Suttliffe Garret, the
sum of eight Hundred Pounds equally between them
to be paid each of them when they arrive to the age
of twenty one years and she mentioned that the
said sum should be put to interest and security given
for the the same, but did not say for whose benefit
the said interest was to arise.  She also left and
bequeathed her Cloths to be distributed amongst
her said three daughters at the discretion
of her mother Mary Kelly.
Secondly she left and bequeathed to her Husband
William Garret all her house and land and
appointed her said Husband Executor and Residuary
Legatee of this her last Will.

Whereas in and by the last will and 
Testament of Mrs. Mary Garrett formerly Wife
of Mr. William Garrett late of Ballabrooie
in the parish of Lezayre Gentleman now
deceased the sum of one hundred and
sixty pounds lawful money Mankes
Currency was left and bequeathed unto
two of her daughters viz. Mary and
Ann Garrett of the Town of Douglas Spinsters
Viz. Eighty pounds each and whereas the
said Mary and Ann Garrett have been
since paid their respective Legacies.
Therefore know all men y the
presents that we the said Mary Garrett 
and Ann Garrett the Legatees herein
beforementioned do hereby acknowledge
to have received our said Legacies
amounting to the sum of one hundred
sixty pounds lawful money Manks
Currency.  And we do therefore hereto
for _____ and our Heirs Executors and
Administrators _____ Release and
discharge Mrs. Mary Garrett the Widow and 
Executrix of the last will and Testament
of the said William Garrett and her
Executors Administrators and Assigns
of and from the same and
every part thereof As Witness our
Hands this 2nd day of April 1801.

of William Garrett of Ballabrooie my Father late decd.
who was the Executor of the last Will & Testament of my
Mother Mary Garrett of Douglas who departed this life
the 26th of December 1784 and bequeathed unto me the
sum of Eighty Pounds as Legacy as by her said Will
may appear _____ Received the said sum of Eighty
Pounds in full of the said Legacy and I hereby
acquit and release and discharge the said Mary
Garrett of the said Sum and all other Debts
and Demands whatsoever and desire the said
Legacy may be cancelled on the Reverend
Deacons Registry as Witness my name this ____
day of April in the year 1800.

The Humble petition of William Garret
of Douglas.
 
I humbly sheweth that your pettrs. wife Mary Garret
departed this life on or about the 26th of Decr.
last past and made her last will and testament
whereby she appointed your pettr. her Executor.
 
That your pettr. having many out
standing debts due him in Right of said Will
and other complicated matters which require
immediate attention & prosecution for the safety
of the Estate of the Decd. and for want of a Probate
to said Will your Pettr. is not fully authorized
to act therein.
 
Your pettr. therefore humbly prays
that your Reverence will be pleased to grant
a Probate to the said Mary Garrets Will at 
the next Consistory Court which granted your
pettr. shall for your Reverence Happyness pray.
 
Decreed that the matter of this Petition do come
on to be heard at a Consistory Court to be holden at St. John's
Chapel on Friday next whereof all the next of kin of the
said Decd. and other proper Parties & Witnesses to have legal
Notice of Service.  Given at Kirk Patrick 22 Febry. 1785.
