72 Lezayre In the name of God, Amen. I NICHOLAS CORLET of the Kella in the Parish of KK Christ Lezayre by the blessing of God, being now at present in bodily good health and of sound mind and memory but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life and this time of common mortal by and to avoid all disputes that might happen after my decease touching my worldly concerns do therefore make this my last will and testament in manner following. First I commend my soul to God and my body to Christian burial, in hope of a joyful resurrection at the Great General Day of Judgment through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ my ever blessed Saviour and Redeemer. As to my worldly concerns I dispose of them as hereafter mentioned. And to my loving WIFE I do leave and bequeath my part of the mare and my part of the choice cow that we have in our holding. Item, to my SON JOHN CORLETT I leave all my right and pretention to those sheep that he my said SON JOHN took upon half the increase from John Stole, which said sheep were kept upon my own tenement. I do also leave to him my said SON JOHN my part of the sheep under the care of John Cowley of Crammaig. Item, to my SON EWAN CORLETT I leave the sum of twenty pounds as legacy and to each of my DAUGHTERS namely CATHERINE, MARGARET, ANNE, ELIZABETH AND ESTHER CORLETT I leave twenty pounds apiece as legacies to them severally and to my said SON EWAN and each of my said DAUGHTERS I leave a sheep and a lamb apiece. Item, that in case my loving WIFE may have a CHILD upon her bearing, I do leave and bequeath the like legacy of twenty pounds and a sheep and lamb to such a CHILD if such will be. And whereas upon the decease of my PARENTS, my BROTHER JOHN CORLET was reckoned, esteemed and reputed as an infirm and in that condition hath been left upon my hands to provide for in every respect ever since without any care or assistance from the rest of his brothers and sisters having no consideration for my so doing but the benefit of what was due to him my said BROTHER JOHN CORLET by the decease of his Parents upon which account and that all may sink down bxxxx principal and interest in my hands or the hands of my SON and Executor hereafter mentioned I do hereby enjoy my said SON JOHN CORLET my heir and Executor to take care of and provide for my said BROTHER JOHN CORLET during his natural life time and have him decently buried, and my said BROTHER JOHN CORLET I leave all my wearing apparel. Lastly I do hereby nominate constitute, ordain and appoint my right, trusty and well beloved SON AND HEIR JOHN CORLET my true and lawful Executor of this my last will and testament and residuary legatee of all the rest of my goods, chattels, credits and effects of what kind, nature or denomination soever, in witness whereof I have caused this my will to be written and have thereunto subscribed my name this the 3rd day of May 1784. EVAN CHRISTIAN Vicar General, The humble Petition of JOHN CORLET of the Kella in the Parish of KK Christ Lezayre, Sheweth: That NICHOLAS CORLET of the Kella aforesaid your Petitioner's FATHER departed this life on or about the 24th of February last pass, having some time before his decease made his last will and testament (as your Petitioner understands) wherein and whereby he constituted your Petitioner Executor, to undergo which charge your Petitioner is not of proper ability until his said FATHER's will be first proved and your Petitioner sworn Executor thereof, and as it being now the proper season of the year for cultivating the Lands in order for an ensuring crop, all which your Petitioner is not of capacity to do until he be lawfully qualified in manner aforesaid. Your Petitioner therefore most humbly prays your Reverence to take the matter and cause and the circumstances thereof to your most judicious consideration, and to be graciously pleased to grant that the probate of the said Will may be taken by your Reverend Court as soon and as speedily as may be convenient for you, with your authority to charge the witnesses to the said will and the next of kin to the children under age on their father's side to appear and attend at the same time, that the said will may be proved and your Petitioner sworn Executor thereof according to Law so that in that respect he may do and perform his duty and he for your Reverence will pray &c. Ordered that the Matter of the Petition do come on to be heard at a Consistory Court to be holden at KK Patrick on Saturday next whereof all the next of Kin of the said Decedent and the Witnesses of the said Will to have legal notice and service. Given at KK Patrick 12th March 1785, Ev. Christian. I DO HEREBY CERTIFY that I have served WM CALLOW of Ballachreggan of KK Maughold & CATHRINE CALLOW HIS WIFE with the Petition of JOHN CORLETT of the Kella of Lezaire is and by virtue of the Revd. Vicar Genl Christian's reference xxxx said Petition I have charged the said WILLIAM CALLOW and CATHRINE HIS WIFE to appear before a Consistory Court to be holden at KK Patrick on Saturday next by ten o'clock in the morning or when called upon to answer the suit and said Petition of the said JOHN CORLETT, Witness my subscription this 15th day of March 1785.
