58 Jurby The last will and testament of Ann Christian of Balla Churry of the parish of Jurby who departed this life the 28th Day of October 1791 being of perfect mind and memory at the declaring thereof. Imprimis, She commited her soul to God and her body to Christian burial, and her worldly goods she disposed of in manner following. Secundus, she left and bequeathed to her DAUGHTER ANNE her big chest, and her little wheel, and a sheep. Item, She left and bequeathed to her DAUGHTER JANE the little chest, a sheep, and all her woolen and linen cloth equally between her two DAUGHTERS and the cow also between them. Item, She left and bequeathed to her SON ROBERT twenty shillings what is in her FATHER's hands, the same being part of the legacy left to her by her MOTHER, and one and two yards of stuff. Item, She left and bequeathed to her SON THOS. twenty shillings what is in her FATHER's hands, the same being part of the legacy left to her by her MOTHER an ewe and two yards of stuff. Item, She left and bequeathed her SON DAVID three yards of sd stuff and the remainder of sd stuff to her two DAUGHTERS, and the tow thread also. Item, She left and bequeathed her SON DANIEL a quilt blanket and a bolster, and the remainder of her beds cloth to her two DAUGHTERS and she left and bequeathed to her FOUR CHILDREN [the next line, at the bottom of the page, is mostly missing and can't be read on the microfilm copy] Item, She left and bequeathed twenty shillings which is in her FATHER's hands the same being her MOTHER's to be spent on her burial. Item, She left and bequeathed equiley between all her CHILDREN all the money or goods that would fall unto her by any person or persons whatsoever hereafter. Lastly She nominated and appointed her SON DANIEL whole Executor of all the remainder of her goods and effects whatsoever and six pence to any one that will claim to break this will. AT A CONSISTORY COURT HOLDEN AT Kirk Michael on the 24th Novr 1791 The Execr being of too tender years to undertake xxxxx Boundan of the execution of the Will, He with PATRICK CHRISTIAN HIS UNCLE are sworn Execr in Court in form of Law and also guardian of the xxxxxx children underage and have given pledges for the payment of debts & legacies namely John Christian of the parish of KK Jurby & John Tear of the Town of Ramsey. Probatum est. Ev: Christian, Wm Clucas. TO THE REVEREND EVAN CHRISTIAN VICAR GENERAL OF THIS ISLE, The humble Petition of DANL CHRISTIAN of the Parish of Jurby Sheweth, That ANN CHRISTIAN of the parish of Jourby departed this life on the 28th day of October last past possessed of sundry goods and effects at the time of her decease and some of the said effects are liable to wase and embezzlement That there was a will made by the said deceased prior to her decease and an executor appointed according to Law, and it so happened there was but twelve days space between her decease and the Chapter Court day, and it is not lawful for wills to be recorded until the space of fourteen days be fully expired after the decease of the deceadant That there are also children under age and it is very requisite that there were guardians appointed and sworn over them. Your Petr therefore humbly prays that your Reverence will be graciously to take this Petition to your most kind consideration and to grant your Petitioner that the sd will may be recorded at your next Consistory Court to be holden in KK Michael that an Execr and Guardians may be sworn according to Law the granting of which will cause your Petr to pray etc. JANUARY THE 13TH 1792 AN INVENTORY of the appraisment of the several legacys left and bequeathed by ANNE CHRISTIAN (WIDOW OF DAVID CHRISTIAN of Ballachurry in the parish of Jurby who departed this life on or about the 28th day of October 1791) to her TWO SONS AND TWO DAUGHTERS namely ROBERT THOMAS, ANNE AND JANE CHRISTIAN who being minors and under age, taken and appraised by four men vizt: Thomas Brew, Evan Kneen, John Callister and Patrick Brew, being first convened and sworn by Thomas Corlett Sumr of the said parish to appraise the said Legacys as follow: £ s d A poplin gown 0 : 1 : 0 A printed linen gown 4 : 0 A cotton gown 5 : 0 A bed gown 0 : 7 A quilted petticoat 3 : 7 A green petticoat 4 : 0 A striped linen gown 4 : 6 A green gown 4 : 6 A black gown 5 : 0 A brown petticoat 0 : 11 A red cloak 7 : 0 A pale blue petticoat 2 : x A black petticoat 2 : x [total] 12 : 4 : x PLAINTIFFS: JOHN CHRISTIAN AND JOHN TEAR PLEDGES for the payment of the debts and legacies and for the forthcoming of the residue of the effects of ANN CHRISTIAN of Ballachurry in the Parish of Jurby late deceased, and Defendants: PATRICK CHRISTIAN the Execr in trust of the last will and testamt of the said ANNE CHRISTIAN, At a Consistory Court holden in the Parish of KK Michael on the 20th Day of Octr 1794: The Plaintiffs having prayed to be released, and discharged from their said suretiship, and the Defendant having produced his FATHER DANL CHRISTIAN and THOS CORLETT of KK Andreas as pledges in the place and stead of the Plaintiffs for the purpose aforesaid; The Plaintiffs are therefore released and discharged, and the said DANL CHRISTIAN and THOS CORLETT are accordingly become Pledges for the said purpose in form of Law.
