73          Maughold
In the name of God, amen. I Catharine Callow alias Christian 
of Claughbane in the parish of KK Maughold, being at present 
in a bad state of health, but of sound and disposing mind, 
memory and understanding, and in order to avoid disputes 
after my decease, do make this my last will and testament 
in manner following: 
First, I commend my soul to God and my body to Christian burial. 
Item, I leave and bequeath unto my cousin Robert Christian 
the interest of one hundred pounds British to be paid him 
yearly during his natural life and after his decease the 
said sum to be the property of Catharine Christian daughter 
of Michael Christian provided she be then living, otherwise 
the annual interest of said sum to be paid unto Jane Callow 
daughter of William Callow Port-e-wooillen during her natural 
life, and after her decease the said principle sum of one 
hundred pounds to be the property of my executors hereafter mentioned. 
Item, I leave and bequeath unto my sister[daughter] 
Mary Killey alias Callow one hundred pounds British as legacy. 
Item, I leave and bequeath unto my brothers[sons] 
John Callow and Philip Robert[Philip Moore] Callow fifty pounds British each as legacy. 
Item, I give devise and bequeath unto James Kelly Esquire 
my seat in Castletown Chapel requesting he will be 
pleased to accept of the same as an acknowledgment 
of his friendship and attention. 
Item, I leave and bequeath unto the poor of the parish 
of KK Maughold the sum of ten pounds, the said sum to 
be laid out at interest. 
Lastly I do nominate constitute and appoint my sisters[daughters] 
Elizabeth Callow & Ellinor Callow joint executrices 
and residuary legatees of my purchased lands and all 
the rest of my goods, cash, mortgages, bills, bonds, 
chattels, and effects of what kind or nature soever, 
and in case any of the aforesaid legatees shall have 
any dispute at law with my executrices respecting any 
of my effects, they are to be disbarred of their respective 
legacies. As witness my subscription this fourth 
day of February one thousand eight hundred, 1800. [

At a Consistory Court holden at Ramsey, May 21st, 1800 
Thomas Cubbon & William Christian the subscribing 
witnesses to the within and before going will made 
oath on the holy Evangelist that the Testatrix was 
of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding 
at the making thereof and that she duly xxx 
and declared the same in their presence & that 
they knew of no other will made since to the contrary, 
whereupon the executrices are sworn in form of 
Law as also to be true and just the one to the 
other in the division of the effects and have 
given pledges for the payment of debts and legacies, 
namely the witnesses of the will.

Whereas Mrs. Catherine Callow some time ago of Claughbane 
in the parish of KK Maughold deceased did by her last will 
and testament leave and bequeath the sum of one hundred 
pounds British unto Catherine Kelly als Christian then 
of the town of Ramsey but now of the Parish of Braddan, 
the interest of which sum payable to Mr. Robert Christian 
during his natural life, I Robert Kelly husband of the 
aforesaid Catherine Kelly of the aforesaid parish of 
Braddan do acknowledge to have received from Mr. William 
Christian husband of Mrs. Eleanor Christian als Callow 
one of the executrices named in the said will of the 
aforesaid Catharine Callow the sum of one hundred 
pounds British being the full amount of the legacy 
left and bequeathed to my said wife in the said 
will of the said Mrs. Catharine Callow. And I do 
hereby release, acquit and discharge the said 
William Christian, his heirs, executors, administrators 
and assigns of the same forever. At witness my 
subscription this 19th day of March 1830. [

Whereas Mrs. Catherine Callow of Claughbane in 
the parish of KK Maughold did by her last will 
and testament bequeath the sum of ten pounds 
currency to be laid out at interest for the 
benefit of the poor of said parish, we John 
Harrison Vicar of KK Maughold and William Christian 
Thomas Fargher, Edward Kneale & William Kerruish 
wardens for the time being of said Parish, 
do hereby acknowledge to have received the 
said sum of ten pounds currency of the Isle 
from Elizabeth Callow & Eleanor Callow the 
executrices of the last will and testament 
of Catharine Callow, and we do hereby acquiet, 
release, exonerate, and discharge the 
executrices of the said will and testament 
their executors administrators and assigns 
of the same and ever part thereof forever. 
Witness our names this 15th day of June 18xx.
