14     Braddan
The last will and testament of Elizabeth Oates als Cubbon, 
relict of Richard Oates of Anna-curr in the parish of 
Braddan, who being old and infirm in bodily health but of 
sound mind and memory at the making thereof, did make and 
appoint her last will and testament in manner and form following. 
First, she committed her soul unto Almighty God, who 
gave it, and her body to Christian burial. 
She left and bequeathed unto her son Edward the sum of 
fifteen pounds. 
She left and bequeathed unto her son John the sum of 
fifteen pounds. 
She left and bequeathed unto her daughter Elizabeth all 
her shaped apparel except her best cloak, which was to 
be for her son Edward’s wife, the bed which she then laid 
on, and likewise the sum of five shillings. 
She left and bequeathed unto her granddaughter Judith 
Oates the sum of twenty shillings. 
Lastly, she nominated and appointed her aforesaid son 
Edward whole and sole executor of all the remainder of 
her effects moveable and immoveable of whatsoever kind 
or denomination, and this in presence of the witnesses 
the 4th day of November 1806.

At a Chapter Court holden in 
Douglas June 9th, 1807, 
the executor is sworn in Court in form of Law and 
hath given pledges for the payment of debts and 
legacies namely the witnesses of the will.
