26    Santan
In the name of God. Amen. I Elizabeth Oates of Oatland in 
the parish of Santan, widow of James Oates late of the same 
place deceased, being weak in body but of sound mind memory 
and understanding, thanks be to God for the same and 
considering the uncertainty of this Life, do make my last 
will and testament in manner following: 
First, I commit my Soul to God and my Body to Christian burial. 
I give and bequeath to my daughter Eunice Moore, wife of 
Norris Moore Esquire, the sum of one hundred pounds British to 
be paid unto her at the ene or within two years after my decease, 
he, the said Norris Moore accounting for and paying unto my 
executor herein after named all such sum or sums of money as 
shall appear to be due by him to me at the time of my decease. 
I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Ann Commins wife of 
William Commins the sum of one hundred pounds British in case 
she may return to this Island and personally receive the same, 
but not otherwise. 
I give and bequeath to my daughter Catharine the wife of Captain 
John Christian the sum of one hundred pounds British to be paid 
at the end or within two years after my decease, and I 
likewise give and bequeath unto her the said Catharine Christian 
all my wearing apparel of whatkind or demonination soever. 
I bequeath to Philip Garrett son of Philip Garret late merchant 
of Douglas the sum of five pounds five shillings British. 
I give the poor of the Doulgas ten pounds ten shillings British 
and to the poor of KK Santan the sum of five pounds five shillings 
British to be paid unto them the first Christmas or Easter after 
my decease. 
Finally, all the rest, residue and remainder of all my estate 
and effects real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever not 
hereinbefore otherwise effectually disposed of, I do give, devise, 
and bequeath unto my eldest son Philip Oates and do appoint him 
executor of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all 
former wills by me made, and declaring this to be my only last 
will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto ... my 
hand this first day of March in the year of our Lord one 
thousand eight hundred and eight.
