In the Name of God Amen
I James Kewley of the Parish of Kk Lonan Being of sound mind and Memory at
the Making Hereof do make my Last will and Testament in Manner following
I Commit my soul to god and my Body to Christian Burial
I leave and bequeath unto our Eldest Daughter Margaret Skillicorn Alias
Kewley That House situate in the Town of Douglas and adjoining The Rent of
the Late William Quay on the East, Thos Gelling's Rent on the south, The
Revd Hugh Stowell Rent on the west and the Common street on the North. They
the said Margaret Skillicorn and her Husband John Skillicorn: to pay the
Amount of that Note which I the said James Kewley Bailed or Joined said
John Skillicorn for the sum of forty Pounds british to the Isle of Man
friendly society with the Interest Costs and Charges, otherwise in Case The
said John Skillicorn and Margaret his Wife will not pay the said Note as
above stated then and in That case I Leave the said House to my Wife Jane
Kewley Alias Moore.
I leave and bequeath unto my son John Kewley The sum of Five shillings British
I Leave and bequeath unto my Daughter Jane Quirk (?) Alias Kewley The sum
of Five Pounds British
I Leave and bequeath unto my three Daughters Elinor Isabella and Charlotte
Kewley my half of that Bough Land which I Bought from Elinor Clague of the
Parish of Kk Lonnan situate in said Parish of Lonnan and Adjoining my own
Premises ­ Equally Between them ­ 
To be possessed by them at the Decease of my Executrix Hereafter Mentioned
but in Case my son John Kewley shall Live after my Executrix then it shall
be at his option To take and Possess said land by paying unto my said
Daughters the sum of forty Pounds british Equally Between them
Lastly I Nominate Constitute and appoint my said Wife Jane Kewley Alias
Moore whole & sole Executrix and Residuary Legatee of this my Last will and
Testament this 31st day of Octr 1817

                             At a Chapter Court holden in Douglas 2 June 1823
John Cain and John Redfern the witnesses to the beforegoing Will having
lately departed this life Joseph Skillicorn and Thomas Curphey both of
Douglas being sworn upon the Holy Evangelists deposed & made oath that they
had often seen the said John Cain & John Redfern the witnesses to the said
Will as aforesaid write, and would [willing?] guaranteed with their hand
writing and that the respective names subscribed as witnesses to the said
Will would pass upon them the Deponents for the characters [..?..]
Handwriting of the said John Cain and John Redfern. Jane Kewley alias Moore
the executrix named is therefore sworn executrix of the said Will in form
of Law, and hath given pledges for the payment of Debts and Legacies,
namely John Skillicorn and James Kelly both of Lonan

        The humble Petition of Jane Kewley Exor of the Will of James Kewley decd
Sheweth
        That your Petr has returned to the proper Registry the account Sales of
the personal property of which the said James Kewley died possessed
        That the Claims of the Creditors entered and proved against the said
estate amount to much more than the effects and it will be necessary to
have a distribution of the said personal estate preparatory to an
application to the chancellor for the sale of the real Property which
belonged to the deceadent in order to pay the deficiency
        Wherefore your Petitioner prays for a hearing of this Petition and that
upon proof of the matters aforesd the proper Registrar may be ordered to
make an act of distribution of the estate of the said James Kewley decd
proportionally to and amongst the 
creditos thereof after allowing there out the costs and charges incurred by
your Pet. In her sd capacity in performance together with the Costs of this
application and your Pet. Will pray, etc

Ordered that this Petition do come on to be heard at a Court to be holden
at Ramsey on Friday the 9 th of February Whereof all proper parties to have
due notice

                        At an Eccliastical Court holden at Ramsey 9 Febry 1827
        Upon hearing this petition in presence of the parties or their advocates ­
It is hereby ordered that the Archdeacons Registrar do forthwith proceed
and ascertain the debts due by the said Estate and if the Same esceed the
effects that he do [..?..] proceed and make a distribution of the said
Estate pari papa (?) Amongst the Creditors thereof

In the matter of Jane Kewley Executrix of the last Will and Testament of
James Kewley late of the Parish of Kk Lonon deceased
        In Obedience to the Order of the Ecclesiastical Court bearing date the 9th
day of Febry 1827 I have proceeded to state and settle an account of the
Estate and Effects which were of the said James Kewley and of the Debts
proved against the same. And I find that the Gross Account Sales of the
Effects of the said James Kewley amount to the sum of Twenty three pounds
eleven shillings and six pence half penny British
        And I have made an Act of distribution of the Sum of Twenty three pounds
eleven shillings and six pence half penny British as appears by the
Schedule hereunto annexed
