54       Maughold
This is the last will and testament of Margaret Stowell alias Martin
wife of John Stowell of Ballastowell of the parish of KK Maughold who
being weak and indisposed in body but of sound disposing mind memory
and understanding at the making thereof.
First she commended her soul to God and her body to the earth.
She left and bequeathed her share of the team, plough, and plough gears,
unto her son Edward Stowell.
Item:  She left and bequeathed the sum of twenty pounds and four sheep unto
her son Robert Stowell payable unto him at the decease of her husband John
Stowell.
Item:  She left and bequeathed unto her daughter Jane Kerruish alias Stowell
the sum of forty pounds, a cow, one bed, and two blankets as legacy.
Item:  She left and bequeathed the sum of  twenty shillings unto her
daughter Margt Clague alias Stowell as legacy payable after the decease
of her husband John Stowell.
Item:  She left and bequeathed unto her son William Stowell a legacy of
twenty pounds payable after the decease of her husband John Stowell. Item:
She left the privilege of living in that house wherein Mrs Callow
lived and adjoining to that house known by the name of Thos Cry's house unto
her son William or until such time as he should and would get the
croft were in Thos Radcliff now lives in unto her son William for shelter
during his life time.
Item:  She left and bequeathed unto granddaughter Margaret wife of
James Moore a legacy of five shillings.
Item:  She left and bequeathed unto her granddaughter Margaret Stole
daughter of William Stowell a legacy of twenty shillings.
Item :  She left and bequeathed unto her granddaughter Mary Clague and
Margaret Clague a legacy of twenty shillings a piece.
Item:  She left and bequeathed unto her grandson John Clague a legacy twenty
shillings.
Item:  She left and bequeathed unto her grandson John and Edmond Kerruish a
legacy of twenty shillings a piece.
Item:  She left and bequeathed unto her granddaughter Mary Stowell daughter
of Wm Stowell a legacy of twenty shillings and half of all her clothes and
the other half thereof unto Margaret her sister - daughters
of the said Wm Stowell.
Item:  She left and bequeathed unto Ellinor Stowell
daughter of Wm Stowell a legacy of twenty shillings.
Item:  She left and bequeathed unto her grandson John Stowell son of Wm
Stowell a legacy of twenty shillings.
Item:  She left and bequeathed unto Jane Stowell daughter of Wm Stowell
a legacy of twenty shillings.
Item:  She left and bequeathed unto her grandson Edward Stowell son of Wm
Stowell a legacy of twenty shillings.
Item:  She left and bequeathed unto her loving husband John Stowell all that
house and property situated in the town of Ramsey commonly known by the name
of Thos Cry's house as legacy.
Item:  She left a legacy of six pence to all that craves and all the
aforesaid legacies to be paid after the deceased of her husband  John
Stowell and one shilling to each of the witnesses of this her last will.
Lastly she nominated constituted and appointed her loving husband John
Stowell sole and whole lawful executor of all the rest of her goods,
cash, credits, chattels, and effects of whatsoever nature or
denomination this 18th day of December 1822.

At a Consistory Court holden in Ramsey 30 Jan 1823.
The executor is sworn in court in form of law and hath given pledges for the
payment of debts and legacies namely the witnesses of the will. Probatum est

I Edmd Kerruish husband of Jane Kerruish als Stowell of the parish of KK
Maughold do acknowledge to have received from John Stowell executor of the
last will and testament of Margt Stowell deceased by Edward
Stowell the sum of forty pounds being the whole amount of the legacy except
a cow, bed and two blankets left and bequeathed to my said wife
in the said will of the aforesaid Margt Stowell.  And I do hereby release,
acquit and discharge the said John Stowell his heirs, executors,
administrators, and assigns of the same forever.
As witness my subscription this 18th day of Feb 1830

Feb 18th 1830 Edmd Kerruish acknowledged the above receipt and discharge
before me  Henry Maddrell A. R.

Whereas Margaret Stowell alias Martin wife of John Stowell of
Ballastowell of the parish of Maughold long since deceased did in and by
her last will and testament which bears date the 18th day of December 1822
Probate of which was granted to the executor therein named John Stowell upon
the 30th day of January 1823 leave and bequeath to Margaret Stowell daughter
of William Stowell  the sum of twenty
shillings and the half of all her clothes as legacy.
And whereas the said Margaret Stowell many years since intermarried
with Thomas Morrison of the town of Ramsey and Robert Kerruish of
Ballastowell in the parish of Maughold executor of the will of Edward
Stowell late of Ballastowell in the said parish deceased having called
upon the said Thomas Morrison and Margt his wife as aforesaid to deliver to
him a receipt to cancel the legacy devised to said Margt Stowell now
Morrison in and by the last will and testament of said Margaret Stowell
deceased as  aforesaid which the said Thomas Morrison and wife have agreed
to do.  Therefore know all men by these presents that Thomas Morrison and
Margt his wife do own and acknowledge to have received
and been fully paid the amount of a legacy including money and clothes
devised to her the said Margt Morrison otherwise Stowell in and by the
last will and testament of the said Margaret Stowell as aforesaid, And
the said Thomas Morrison and Margaret his wife do hereby request and direct
that the said legacy be forthwith cancelled upon the record.  In witness
whereof they have hereunto subscribed  their names this the
22nd day of February 1873.

Edward Stowell son of Wm Stowell her grandson received the sum of twenty
shillings as legacy 7 March 1873.
William Stowell  of Ramsey was to received the sum of twenty pounds
but some longtime since departed this life intestate and at an Eccl Court
holden at Ramsey on the 21st day of March 1873 administration of the estate
was granted to his son Edward Stowell of Ramsey who with all arrears of
interest due and owing received and cancelled upon record 7 Mar 1873.

Robert Kerruish executor of Edward Stowell now deceased the full
amount of twenty pounds bequeathed to the said Margaret Stowell to the said
son William Stowell as aforesaid together with all arrears of
interest due and owing thereon.  And the said Edward Stowell
administrator of the said William Stowell doth hereby order and direct
the same be and stand cancelled upon record.  22 March 1873.
Mary and Margaret Clague received twenty shillings each on 9th June
1846.
John Kerruish grand son received 20 shillings 20 May 1840.
Edward Kerruish twenty shillings 20 May 1840.
Margaret Clague als Stowell widow of Thos Clague deceased received twenty
shillings 11 Jan 1834.
John Clague received 20 shillings 11 Jan 1834.
