CHARLES KEWLEY LONAN A-4 1826 LDS Film No. 0106244 [Transcribers note: this is a revision of an earlier transcription (will only) updated to include probate proceedings] 4 In the name of God Amen I Charles Kewley of Lonan being old and infirm and knowing the uncertainty of this transitory life but of sound disposing mind and memory do make this my Last Will and Testament in manner following, first, I commit my soul to God who gave it and my body to a Christian burial and as to my worldly effects I Bequeath in manner following: I Leave and Bequeath unto my son in Law Thomas Clarke my Black Coat. I Leave unto my son in Law James Cain my Black velvet Breeches. I Leave unto my grand son James Clauge all the rest of my shaped clothes together with a piece of uncut blue cloth. Lastly I nominate and appoint in this my Last Will and Testament my affection- Cathrine ate Daughter ^ whole and sole Executrix of all the rest of my goods movable and immo- vable of whatever nature or denomination soever as witness my name here unto subscribed this the 14th Day of Feb'ry 1826 Charles Kewley his xmark Witnesses present James Skillicorn James Kewley [Page 2] At a Chapter Court holden at Douglas June 13th Charles Kewley having departed this life and Catherine Kewley the Executrix appointed in the last Will and Testament of the said Deceasant having made application for Probate thereof. Therefore Probate of the same is granted to the said Catherine Kewley she having duly sworn well and truly to Execute the same to pay the debts funeral expenses and said legacies so far as the goods will extend and the Law bind her and to return unto the Episcopal Registry when thereto lawfully required a full Inventory of the effects and an accurate account of her [administration [….] said Estate. And to these ends James Kewley and James Skillicorn have entered into a Bond in the sum of Fifteen pounds [British?] and the said Cath'n Kewley hath made Aff't that the property to be not exceed said sum [signed] Will Roper [Page 3] Know all men by presents, that We, James Kewley of the Parish of Lonan and James Skillicorn of the Parish of Lonan, are held and firmly bound to George, Lord Bishop of Sodor and Mann, and his Successors, in the Sum of Fifteen pounds British, to the Payment whereof well and truly to be made, we bind Ourselves, our Heirs, Executors, Administrators, and Assigns, jointly and severally, by these presents, to the said Lord Bishop and his Successors. Witness our Subscriptions, this 13th day of June 1826 Whereas the Ecclesiastical Court of this Island hath this Day granted Probate of the Last Will of Charles Kewley deceased, to Catherine Kewley. Now the Condition of the above Obligation is such, that if the said Executrix shall well and truly administer the Estate and Effects of the said Deceadent; and shall in all Things relating thereto conform to the Laws of this Isle, the Orders of the Ecclesiastical Courts thereof, and the Oath which she hath this day taken, then the foregoing Obligation to be void, otherway to be and remain in full force and virtue in Law Signed in the presence } James Kewley of } James Skillicorn John Cls Stephens } [Page 4] Catherine Kewley made Oath on the Holy Evangelists that the Personal Property of Charles Kewley deceased, will not exceed in Value the sum of fifteen pounds.
