In the name of God Amen.
I Hugh Crow of Liverpool in the County of Lancaster Master Mariner being of
sound disposing mind memory and understanding but considering the
uncertainty of this mortal life do make publish and declare this to be my
last will and testament as follows
I commit my soul to God and my body to a Christian burial according to the
direction hereinafter named.
I direct all my just debts,  funeral expenses, and the charges of the
probate of this my will to be paid as soon as the same can be conveniently
done.
Whereas my wife Mary Crow will in case of her surviving me be entitled to a
clear yearly annuity or sum of forty pounds payable quarterly during her
life the payment of which is secured to her and made chargeable on a certain
estate in the Isle of Man and the interest and proceeds of a certain sum of
five hundred pounds secured to me on bond which said annuity I considered an
ample provision for her support and maintenance.  I do therefore hereby
bequeath unto her the sum of ten guineas only for mourning to be paid to her
by my executors hereinafter named out of the first monies which may come to
their hands.  Then I give and bequeath unto my niece Mary Teare the sum of
fifteen guineas and to her sisters my other nieces Ann Hinds, Jane Hinds and
Margaret Hinds all daughters of my late sister Judith Hinds the sum of ten
guineas each to be paid to them immediately after my decease.  I also give
and bequeath unto Deemster Heywood Esquire of the Isle of man aforesaid the
sum of five guineas.
I also give and bequeath unto Edward Gawne Smith of Douglas in the Isle of
Man aforesaid Merchant the sum of five guineas.
I also give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Crellin wife of Patrick Crellin of
Liverpool shoemaker if she be living at the time of my decease the sum of
five guineas 
I also give and bequeath unto John Jones son of Richard Jones Keeper of the
Lycensus News Room Liverpool the sum of five guineas.
I also give and bequeath unto John Ratcliffe of Liverpool aforesaid
Bookkeeper at present engaged as the Depositary of the Liverpool Auxiliary
Bible Society the sum of one hundred pounds to be paid to him twelve months
after my decease.
I also give and bequeath to the overseers of the poor of the parish of
Liverpool at the time of my decease for the use of the poor thereof the sum
of ten pounds. 
To the Treasurer for the time being of the Blue Coat Hospital in Liverpool
aforesaid the sum of ten pounds for the use of the said hospital .
To the Treasuer for the time being of the School for the Blind in Liverpool
aforesaid the sum of ten pounds for the use of the said School
To the Treasurer for the time being of the Merchants Seamans Hospital in
Liverpool aforesaid for the use of the said hospital the sum of ten pounds.
To the Treasurer for the time being of the Fund for the Relief of the Infirm
and Aged Pilots of Liverpool aforesaid for the augmentation of the said fund
the sum of ten pounds.
 To the overseers of the poor for the time being of the town of Ramsey in
the Isle of Man for the use of the poor of that town the sum of twenty
pounds
To the overseers of the poor for the time being of the town of Douglas in
the said Isle for the use of the poor  the sum of ten guineas.
To the overseers of the Poor for the time being of the town of Castletown in
the said island for the use of the poor of the said town the sum of five
guineas 
To the overseers of the poor for the time being of the town of Peel or
Peeltown in the said island the sum of five guineas for the use of the poor
there.
To the Treasurer for the time being of the Hospital for the Poor Black
Slaves in the city of Kingston in the island of Jamaica for the use of the
said hospital the sum of ten guineas all which paid last mentioned legacies
I do hereby direct my said executors to pay at the time of six months next
after my decease.
I also give and bequeath unto each of my said executors hereinafter named
excepting the said John Ratcliffe the sum of five guineas as a token of my
respect for them.
I also give and bequeath unto my executors hereinafter named and the
survivors and survivor of them his executors or administrators the sum of
two hundred pounds upon Trust to pay and apply the same in and toward the
expences attending the preparing for printing and publication a sketch of my
life and in and toward the expence of engraving plaques and printing and
taking off impressions therefrom illustrative of the said sketch and to
accompany the same and be published therewith.
I also give and bequeath unto my said executors and executor for the time
being the sum of fifty pounds for the purposes of purchasing burial ground
for my interment and making a vault wherein my body may be deposited and for
erecting a tomb over the same and I request I may be buried in the
churchyard of Kirk Maughold in the said Isle of Man.
I also give and bequeath unto my said executors and the survivors and
survivor of them his executors or administrators all that my share and
interest of and in the Liverpool Coal Gas Company concern and also all those
my two several shares of and in the Liverpool Corporation Water Works
Company upon trust that they or the survivors or survivor of them his
executors or administrators do and shall receive the dividends or proceeds
arising therefrom from time to time as the same shall become due and payable
and pay and divide the same at convenient seasons unto and equally between
and amongst my said four nieces Mary Teare Ann Hinds, Jane Hinds and
Margaret Hinds during the term of their several natural lives exclusive of
any husbands or husband they or any or either of them may marry and I do
hereby direct that the receipts of my said nieces or any or either of them
notwithstanding coverture shall be good and sufficient discharges for the
same and from and after the decease of any or either of my said nieces then
upon trust to pay such dividends or proceeds unto and equally between such
of my said nieces as may be then living and the lawful issue of such of them
as may be then dead.  The lawful issue of such deceased niece or nieces
taking only amongst them the share or shares his or her or their deceased
parent would have been entitled too if living and from and after the decease
of all of my said nieces then upon trust to pay such dividends or proceeds
unto and equally between the lawful issue of my said nieces such respective
lawful issue nevertheless taking amongst them only the share their deceased
parent would have been entitled unto if living and in case of all my said
nieces departing this life without leaving any lawful issue any of them
surviving then my will is that the said shares shall go to and form part of
my personal estate and effects and be disposed of as hereinafter mentioned
and as to all the rest residue and remainder of my estate and effects real
household and personal or of whatsoever nature or kind or wheresoever the
same may be of which I shall be seized possessed of or entitled unto in any
wise at the time of my decease I give devise and bequeath the same and every
part thereof unto my nephew William Hinds of Liverpool aforesaid Merchant
his heirs executors administrators and assigns to hold the same unto the
said William Hinds his heirs executor administrators and assigns for ever or
for and during all my estate term and interest therein respectively in which
residuary bequest I Hugh Crow, Richard Jones, J. H. Phoenix junior, W. Lewis
mean to include the two pieces of plate given to me by the underwriters of
London and Liverpool in testimony of their approbation of my conduct in
defending my ship at different times against the enemy.  And I do hereby
appoint my nephew the said William Hinds, John Askewn of Liverpool aforesaid
Harbour Master, Edward Gawne Banker and William Leece Drinkwater Merchant
both of the Isle of Man aforesaid and the said John Ratcliffe executors of
this my will hereby revoking anrd making void all former wills codicils and
testamentary dispositions by me heretofore made and lastly I do hereby
declare that my said trustees and executors shall not be answereable or
accountable for or charged or chargeable with more of the aforesaid estate
and effects or the money arising therefrom than they shall respectively
actually receive notwithstanding  their or his signing or joining in signing
any receipts for conformity nor shall any one or more of them be answerable
or accountable for the acts deeds receipts or defaults of the others or
other of them nor for any unavoidable losses.
In witness whereof I the said Hugh Crow have to the four first sheets of
this my will contained in five sheets of paper severally subscribed my name
and to the fifth and last sheet thereof subscribed my name and affixed my
seal this Fourth day of January in the year of our Lord One thousand eight
hundred and twenty six.          Hugh Crow

last will and testament in the presence of us who at his request in his
presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as

This is a codicil to be added to and taken as part of the last will and
testament of me Hugh Crow of Liverpool in the County of Lancaster Master
Mariner which will bears date on or about the Fourth day of January One
thousand eight hundred and tweny six.  I give to the Treasurer or Trustees
for the time being of the Free School in Ramsey Isle of Man the sum of
nineteen pounds nineteen shilling to be applied to and for the benefit of
the said school.  I hereby reduce the legacy of twenty pounds given in and
by my said will to the overseer of the poor for the time being of Ramsey to
the sum of nineteen pounds nineteen shillings.  I give to the Treasurer for
the time being of the Blue Coat Hospital in Liverpool the sum of nine pounds
nineteen shillings in addition to the sum alreadygiven by my said will.  I
also give to the Treasurer of the Seaman's Hospital in White Haven for the
use of the same the sum of nineteen pounds nineteen shillings.  I hereby
revoke the devise and bequest contained in my said will of my share of the
Liverpool Coal Gas Company concern and of my two shares in the Liverpool
CorporationWater Works Company and I give devise and bequeath the same as
follows that is to say my two shares in the Liverpool Water Works to my
niece Jane Hinds her heirs executors administrators and assigns forever or
for and during my estate and interest therein and my said share in the Coal
Gas Company to my nieces Ann Hinds,  Mary Tear, and Margaret Hinds and their
respective heirs executors administrators and assigns for ever as for and
during  my estate and interest therein as tenants in common and not as joint
tenants.   I give to the Treasurer of the Deaf and Dumb Institution in
Liverpool the sum of five guineas for the purpose of the charity.
It is my express wish that my nephew Edward Hinds shall not have any part of
my property and I hereby exclude him of and from the same.   It is also my
wish that my nephew William Hinds who is my residuary devise take great care
of and presence the two pieces of plate given to me by the Underwriters of
London and Liverpool and I hereby appoint John Esbie of Liverpool Gentleman
to be a trustee and executor of my said will in the room and stead of Edward
Gawne and William Leece Drinkwater and to act with William Hinds and John
Askero my other executors therein named (Hugh Crow) W. Hinds, Samuel
Atheron, Robert Wynne and to have the same power as they are invested with
and precisely the same and in like manner as if his name had been inserted
in the will instead of the said Edward Gawne and William Leece Drinkwater
and I do hereby confirm my said will in all and every respect except as to
the alterations made by this codicil.
In witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty eighth
day of March One thousand eight hundred and twenty nine.  Hugh Crow signed
sealed publised and declared by the said testator as and for a codicil to
his last will and tesatament in the presence of us who at his request in his
presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as

By the tenor hereof we Thomas Parkinson clerk Doctor in Divinity Vicar
General and Official Principal of the right Reverence Father in God John
Bird by Divine permission Lord Bishop of Chester lawfully authorized Make
know unto all men that upon the third day of June in the year of our Lord
One thousand eight hundred and twenty nine.  The last will and testament
with a codicil of Hugh Crow late of Liverpool in the County of Lancaster and
Diocese of Chester  Master Mariner deceased was insinuated proved approved
and decreed valid and administration of all and singular the goods chattels
and credits of the said deceased was granted unto William Hinds one of the
executors named in the said will and testament being first sworn upon the
Holy Gospels well and truly to administer  the said goods, chattels and
credits and fulfil the said will in all things and also to exhibit a true
and perfect inventory of all and singular the said goods chattels and
credits and render a just account of his administration thereof unto us or
some other judge competent in this behalf when and as often as he shall be
thereunto  lawfully required power being reserved to John Radcliffe, John
Askew, and John Esbie the other executors therein also named to take upon
them the execution thereof when they shall lawfully request the same the
right of every person being saved dated at Chester under th seal of our
