Rushen In the name of God Amen. I Edward Gawne of Kentraugh in the parish of Rushen taking into consideration the uncertainty of this mortal life and being of sound disposing mind memory and understanding do make and publish this last will and testament. First I resign my soul to God and my body to a Christian burial. Secondly I leave to my daughter Amelia Gawne otherwise Pedder two thousand pounds British, the interest of which at fair per cent, she is to get during her natural life, then to be divided equally among her children, and if none to be equally divided among her brother and sisters children in this sum over and above what I have settled upon her before this. Thirdly I leave and bequeath to my daughter Isabella Gawne three thousand pounds British the interest of which at five per cent she is to get during her natural life, then to be divided equally among her children, and if none to be equally divided among her brother and sisters children. This sum is over and above what her mother left her, also what she is entitled to by the death of her sister Alicia, and the whole to be paid in English money. Fourthly I leave and bequeath to my daughter Eleanor Jane Gawne otherwise Wulff two thousand pounds British the interest of which at five per cent, she is to get during her natural life then to be divided equally among her children, and if none to be equally divided among her brother and sisters children. This sum is over and above what I have already settled upon her. Fifthly I leave and bequeath to my nephew Edward Gawne of BallaCurry and my son Edward M. Gawne one thousand and five hundred pounds British in Trust for certain purposes as described to them and which I have no doubt but what they will fulfill. Sixthly I leave to Catharine Faragher wife of ---- Farragher Kirk Lonan (now residing in Douglas) a certain house on Castletown Green called Thos Cowells House which she now receives the rent off and all its appurtenances during her natural life and after which to descend to her eldest son I also leave to her ten pounds British a year and to be paid quarterly and that into her own hands, and no other kind of way whatever and if she does not live in the house the rent of it is in like manner to be paid into her own hands, and no other receipt will discharge the same. Seventhly I leave to the parish school of Rushen what is called the Clerks School one hundred pounds British to be laid out at interest by the Parson, Wardens and the Captain of the parish, the interest of which to be paid to the master of the said school for which he is to educate five poor children, and which children are to be appointed by the proprietor of the estate of Kentraugh forever. Eighthly I leave and bequeath to the poor of the parish of Rushen one hundred pounds British to be laid out at interest by the parish Wardens and the Captain of the said parish upon good and sufficient landed security and the interest to be paid to them yearly at the discretion of the above named persons. Ninthly I leave and bequeath to my son Edward M. Gawne all and the whole of my different estates lands houses and premises which are now belonging to me or may hereafter be entitled too in any one way. Save and except the houses and lands (about 21 acres) I bought from John Gawne called Scalabey beg in the parish of Rushen and later now tenanted by Hugh Kneal both of which estates is already and before this disposed of. Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my said son Edward Moore Gawne whole and sole executor and residuary legatee of all the rest and remainder of my monies, goods, chattels, and effects of every kind, bonds notes, mortgages, cash, book debts, farming stock of every kind with every description of property that belongs to me with cutting off all claimers with six pence legacy. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this 26th day of March 1835. Edward Gawne Witnessed by Wm Witted Henry Clucas Wm Maddrell Whereas Edward Gawne late of Kentraugh in the Isle of Man Esquire but now deceased did by his last will and testament (Probate whereof was on the 16th day of October 1837 granted to his son Edward Moore Gawne Esquire the executor named in such will) leave and bequeath to Eleanor Jane Wulff daughter of the said testator two thousand pounds British the interest whereof at the rate of five per centum per annum to be paid to her during her natural life, and then the said sum to be equally divided amongst her children, and if none then to be equally divided amongst her brother and sister's children. And whereas the said Eleanor Jane Wulff being the widow of Gustavius Wulff Esquire deceased departed this life on the 23rd day of February 1863 leaving no children. And whereas the brother of the said Edward Moore Gawne and her only surviving sister and her only sister who has had issue is Amelia, Widow of Edward Pedder Esquire. And whereas at the decease of the said Eleanor Jane Wulff the said Edward Moore Gawne had ten children and the said Amelia Pedder five children each child's share of the said legacy being one hundred and thirty three pounds six shillings and eight pence. And whereas one child of the said Amelia Pedder is Arthur Edward Pedder of 10 Marlboro Road St John's Wood London. Now know all men by these presents that I the said Arthur Edward Pedder do acknowledge to have received from the said Edward Moore Gawne executor of the said will, the said sum of one hundred and thirty three pounds six shillings and eight pence being my share of the said legacy of two thousand pounds with interest thereon from the said 23rd day of February. And I do therefore exonerate, acquit, and discharge him the said Edward Moore Gawne his executors and administrators from all claims or liability in respect of my share of the said legacy and of all interest in respect thereof. Isabella Gawne rec'd 12 April 1845 the sum of four thousand pounds sterling in part of seven thousand pounds and three thousand pounds with interest owing to Isabella Gawne Mona Lucy Pedder re'd 24 Feb 1866 133 lbs 6 sh 8 pence Henry Jephson Gawne rec'd 19 Mary 1866 same amount. Catherine Jane Feilden rec'd 8 Oct 1860 342 lbs 17 sh 3 pence. Husband W. L. Feilden. Edward Gawne received 293 lbs 18 sh 3 p 10 Jul 1857. Katherine E. Gawne rec'd 133 lbs 6 sh 8 pence 18 Feb 1871. Whereas Edward Gawen late of Kentraugh in the parish of Rushen in the Isle of Man Esquire deceased did by his last will and testament dated the 26th March 1835 bequeath to his daughter Amelia Gawne otherwise Pedder 2000 lbs the interest of which at five per cent she was to get during her natural life then to be divided equally among her children and if none among her brother and sisters children and whereas probate of such will was in the said Isle on the 16th October 1837 granted to Edward Moore Gawne Esquire the executor named in such will. And whereas the said Edward Moore Gawne sometime ago departed this life and probate of his last will and testament has been granted to Emily Maria Gawne widow and the Rev Richard Murray Gawne two of the executors named in the said last mentioned will. And whereas the said Amelia Pedder departed this life on the 28th day of January 1879 she being then the widow of Edward Pedder Esquire deceased. And whereas she said Amelia Pedder had five children only namely Richard Newsham Pedder now deceased, Arthur Edward Pedder now of Holley Village Highgate in the County of Middlesex gentleman - Catherine Jane wife of sir William Leyland Fielden Barnot of Peniscowles near Blackburn in the County of Lancaster, Amelia Louisa Pedder of No 58 Bedford Gardens in the parish of Kinsington in the County of Middlesex, spinster, and Mona Lucy Pedder of No 58 Bedford Garden's aforesaid spinster. Now know all men by these presents that each of them the said Amelia Louisa Pedder and Mona Lucy Pedder doth acknowledge to have received from the said Emily Maria Gawne and Richard Murray Gawne executors and aforesaid the sum of four hundred pounds being their shares of the said sum of two thousand pounds together with interest for the same Amelia Pedder to the day of the date of these presents. And they do severally acquit and discharge the said executors and their respective executors and administrators and the estate of the said Edward Gawne deceased from all further claim in respect of their several interests in the said sum of two thousand pounds bequeathed as aforesaid. In witnesses whereof they the said Amelia Louisa Pedder and Mona Lucy Pedder have hereunto set their hands this tenth day of November 1879. There is more to this will but did not type.
