James Oates Episcopal Will 0106441 KM 1841:
In the name of God Amen.
I James Oates of Ballaglonny in the parish of Michael being advance in years and
weak in bodily health but of sound mind and memory and understanding do make this
my last will and testament in manner following.
I leave and bequeath unto my sons John Oates and Thomas Oates whatever as they or
either of them may owe me or which I may have advanced to them and the further
legacies of five shillings each. I leave and bequeath unto my sons James, William,
and Robert Oates five shillings each as legacy having otherwise provided for them.
I leave and bequeath unto my daughters Margaret and Jane the sum of thirty pounds
British each as legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Oates the sum of sixty pounds British as legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary Oates all the rest residue and remainder
of my goods and chattels rights credits and personal property of every description.
And a certain dwelling house and garden situate on the quarterland of Ballaglonny
which I purchased from John Corteage(Corjeage).
And I do hereby nominate and appoint the said John Cortgage(Corjeage) of Ballaglonney
in the parish of Michael and Daniel Teare of Chronk e Berry in the parish of Conchan
executors in trust of this my last will and testament. Hereby revoking all former
wills by me at any time heretofore made and declaring this to be my last will and
testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this tenth day of June One
thousand eight hundred and forty one.

At a Chapter Court holden at Kirk Michael 25th November 1841
Notwithstanding this will has been proved but by one witness only, yet as no objection
has been offered thereto, the executors are sworn in Court in form of Law and have
given pledges for the payment of debts and legacies namely Evan Gell of the Whitehouse
and John Cannon of the Cooilshellagh both in the parish of Michael
PROBATUM EST T. A. Corlett
Jane Kelly alias Oates a legatee named in the beforegoing will appeared at the Registry
and acknowledged to have been paid the sum of thirty pounds british bequeathed her
by the said will and she hereby exonerates acquits and discharges the executors
their executors administrators and assigns of the same and of every part thereof.
As witness her subscription this Twenty Seventh day of November One thousand eight
hundred and forty one 184l.

John Oates a legatee named in the beforegoing will appeared at the Registry and
acknowledged to have been paid the sum of five shillings at the same time appeared
Robert Oates, William Oates and James Oates and severally acknowledged to have been
paid the sum of five shilllings each at the same time appeared Charles Craine husband
of Margaret Oates a legatee named in the said will and acknowledged to have been
paid the sum of thirty pounds British at the same time appeared Elizabeth Oates.
