24 Braddan Arch To the Worshipfull Vicar General Corlet etc etc etc the Humble petition of Margaret Lawson wife of the late Edward Lawson Sheweth that some time since Edward Lawson late of the Town of Douglas departed this life having first duly made and published his last Will and Testament and thereof appointed petitioner sole Executrix and residuary legatee that petitioner is desirous to have said Will proved according to Law and there sworn Executrix in due form Margaret Lawson X Wherefore petitioner prays a hearing of this petition and that your Worship; may be pleased to grant a probate of the said Will to petitioner and that she may be sworn Executrix accordingly and petition will pray etc. Ordered that this Petition do come on to be heard before me at an Eccl Court to be held in Douglas on Friday the 13th Decr. Whereof all proper parties and persons to have due notice. Given this 4th Decr 1850 J.W. Corlett At an Eccl Court held in Douglas the 13th Decrf 1850 Upon hearing this Petition in presence of the parties or their advocates and upon examining John Clucas and James Cottier the subscribing witnesses to the Will of Edwd Lawson decd I am of opinion the due execution thereof by the Testator has been proved and therefor that probate theron should be ganted as prayed for and the same is so ordered adjudge and decreed accordingly J.W. Corlett 24 Braddan In the name of God Amen. I Edward Lawson of the Town of Douglas baker being in sound mind and memory at the making hereof maketh my last Will and testament as follows. First I comit my soul to Almighty God and my body to a christian burial. Secondly, I leave and bequeath unto my son Edward Lawson the sum of five pounds if he comes to the Isle of Man to receive it and to be paid into his own hands only I leave and bequeath unto my son Joseph Lawson the sum of five pounds as survivor the said money to be paid at the death of the .... Lawson I leave and bequeath unto my son Thomas the sum of five pounds the said money to be paid at the death of the survivor I leave and bequeath unto my son John Lawson the sum of ten pounds the said money to be paid at the deth of the survivor I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Jane Lawson the sum of twinty pounds the said money to be paid at the death of the survivor I leave and bequeath unto Margaret Lawson my wife all my right title and interest that I have ina house yard and out offices in Water Lane in the town of Dougls bounded on the north by the properto of Robert Cannell and bounded on the west by the property of John Donalson, and on the south by the property of Mr Spittall, and bounde on the east by the public street. Also I leave and bequeath unto my said wife Margaret Lawson all my right title and interest that I have and do hold in a house in King Street in the said town of Douglas with the yard and out offices and the previleges and appurtenances to the said premises belonging and bounded by the property of Doctor King on the east, and bounded by King Street on the North, and bounded by Water Lane on the west, and bounded by my own property on the south. I also leave and bequeath unto my said wife Margaret Lawson all my right title and intrest that I have and do hold in the remainer (sic) of all my houses, out houses, yard and premises in Water Lane in the town of Douglas, and bounded on the south by the property of Charles Craine tanner, and on the east by the property of John Kelly shoemaker, and bounded on the north by my own proety and bounded on the west by Water Lane Lastly I nominatge constitute and appoint my said wife Margafret Lawson to be my Executrix and residuary legatee of all the rest residue and remainer of all my monies goods credits chattles and effects of every description of this my last Will or Wills by me made, as witness my subscription or mark this 1st day of Jany one thousand eight hundred and forty nine 1849 Edward Lawson my X Witnesses present John Clucas James Cottier At an Eccl Court held in Douglas the 13th Decr 1850 John Clucas and James Cottier the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Edward Lawson decd having made oath on the Holy Evangilists that the sd testator when of sound mind memory and understanding duly signed and executed the same in their presence as and for his last Will and Testament. Margaret Lawson the Executrix is therefor sworn well and truly to fulfil and execute the same according to law,k to pay all just debts legacies and funeral expenses so far forth as the goods will extend and the law bind her and to return to the Archdeacons Registry a full true and perfect inventory of the same with an accurate account of her acts and proceeding in the premises when there unto lawfully required and to these ends she has ghiven pledges namely Thomas Cottier of Ballabarny in the parish of Maughold and James Cottier of Douglas who have executed the usual bond in presence of the Court.
