John Oates Onchan 1850 I John Oates of Ballachrink Mill in the Parish of Kirk Onchan calling to mind the uncertainty of this mortal life being of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding at the making hereof do make this my last Will and Testament in manner following viz. I commend my Soul to God who gave it and my Body to a decent Christian burial. I leave devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife Margaret Oates alias Kewley all and singular all my Estate, Lands Housing buildings Hereditaments and premises real and personal be they of whatsoever ...... denomination or disposition I may happen to be in possession of or entitled to at the time of my decease. And lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my beloved wife Margaret whole and sole Executrix and Residuary Legatee of all and singular the rest residue and remainder of all my Goods Chattels Rights Credits and Effects moveable and immoveable of what kind or nature whatsoever and wheresoever leaving one shilling as Legacy to whomsoever may Establish a right to claim in this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former Wills or Codicils heretofore by me made. In Witness whereof I have herewith subscribed my name this thir teenth day of January one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine 1839. Kewley At a Chapter Court holden at Douglas on the 18th day of October 1852 William Kewley one of the subscribing witnesses in the foregoing paper writing purporting to be the last Will of John Oates Deceased, having made oath on the Holy Evangelist that the said John Oates the Testator when of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding duly signed and executed the same in his presence and in presence of the other subscribed witness, as and for his last Will and Testament. And the said William Kewley and Robert Lewin ...... ...... witness to the republication written on said Will made oath that the said Testator John Oates when of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding duly executed the same in their presence a republication and confirmation of his said Will. Margaret Oates the Executrix therein named is therefore sworn well and truly to fulfill and execute said Will according to Law to pay all just debts Legacies and Funeral expenses of the Testator so far forth as the Goods and Effects will extend and the law bind her, to return to the Episcopal Registry a full true and perfect Inventory of said Goods & Effects with an accurate account of her Administration thereof when thereunto lawfully required. And to these ends she hath given pledges namely Robert Lewin and William Kewley who have executed a Bond to that effect bearing equal dates herewith. Probatum Est. T.A. Corlett 1852 18th June The Right Honorable and Right Reverend Auckland ) Lord Bishop of the Diocese of Sodor and Man and the ) Venerable Joseph Christian Moore Archdeacon ) of said Diocese Trustees of the Impropiate(?) ) Fund - Claim - Sterling - ) £12.0.0 WHEREAS the Ecclesiastical Court of this Diocese hath this day granted Probate of the Last Will and Testament of John Oates late of Onchan deceased, to Margaret Oates the Executrix therein named. AND WHEREAS Robt. Lewin of Mullon in Currin in the Parish of Onchan and William Kewley of Ballanaird in the Parish of Onchan have agreed to become pledges for the said Margaret Oates for the due administration of the said Estate according to law. Therefore know all men by these Presents, that we, the said Robert Lewin and William Kewley hereby bind and oblige ourselves and our Executors and Administrators as pledges to the said Margaret Oates for the due and faithful administration of the goods and effects of the said deceased according to law. And in her default we bind ourselves and our Executors and Administrators to be answerable to all parties interested in the said Estate, or the Administration thereof.
