In the Name of God Amen. The Last 
Will And Testament of Matthias 
Bridson of the Estate of Cordamon in 
the Parish of Malew – being of sound mind 
and retentive memory at the declaration 
hereof
First Item I commend my soul to 
the mercy of God through the merits 
of Jesus Christ my Saviour, and 
my Body to Christian Burial
Secondly for the love and affection 
which I bear my eldest son
 William I leave and bequeath unto 
him one of the two hundred pounds 
which he was bound as my heir at Law, 
to pay unto the rest of my surviving 
children at the death of his parents,
and upon his coming into full 
possession of my landed property
Thirdly I leave and bequeath 
unto my son Robert the sum of 
one hundred pounds sterling
Fourthly I leave and bequeath unto 
my son Matthias the sum of one 
hundred pounds sterling
Fifthly I leave and bequeath 
unto my daughter Elizabeth Goldsmith 
the sum of one hundred pounds 
sterling
Sixthly I leave and bequeath unto
 my daughter Ann Kinnish the 
sum of one hundred pounds sterling
Seventhly I leave and bequeath unto 
my daughter Isabella Creer 
the sum of one hundred pounds 
sterling
Eighthly I leave and bequeath unto 
my daughter Sophia the sum of 
three hundred pounds sterling
Ninthly I leave and bequeath unto 
my grandson Matthew Matthias 
Bridson the sum of twenty pounds 
Sterling, the said Legacy not to be 
payable unto him until he shall 
have arrived at the age of twenty two 
years – but the said Legacy of 
twenty pounds to bear interest
 immediately at my decease for 
said grandsons maintenance 
at the rate of four per cent per 
Annum – And moreover should 
my said Grandson Matthew Matthias 
Bridson depart this life before he 
shall have arrived at the age of 
twenty two years – the Legacy 
of said twenty pounds sterling shall 
revert to my Executrix
Tenthly I leave and bequeath unto 
my Granddaughter Margaret 
Christian the sum of twenty pounds sterling
The said Legacy to be disposed 
of exactly upon the same terms 
and conditions as the 
before named Legacy to my 
Grandson Matthew Matthias 
Bridson
And Lastly I nominate & appoint 
my beloved wife Margaret Bridson
my sole Executrix of all my
worldly Goods and effects
moveable and immoveable
consisting especially of Chattels
of every description, live and
dead stock, crop of corn and 
of meadow as well as rye grass 
and hay - And all farming utensils
also household furniture, consisting of
Chairs, tables, bed-steads,
 beds and bedding, clock, plate
and library, in fact as any
thing the house contains, besides
all my apparel and_____
of every description. Monies,
Notes, Bonds and Mortgages
subjecting her to the payment
of the above Legacies respectively 
as they become due at the
expiration of twelve months 
after my decease without 
interest, excepting the terms
of interest and the payment of
Legacy to my Grandchildren
as above mentioned, making
my Executor also liable
to the payment of my just
debts and funeral expenses
and in order to ______
and prevent all future [litigation]
and strife about this my Last
Will and Testament I moreover
leave and bequeath the sum
of five shillings to any person
related to me who can legally
claim that sum as a Legacy
from my Executrix.

At a Chapter Court holden at Castletown
on the 10th day of May 1850
The Rev’d John Thomas Clarke and David Cowan the 
subscribing witnesses to the foregoing proper writing purporting
 to be the Will of Matthias Bridson of the Parish of Malew
deceased made oath on the Holy Evangelists that said
Testator when of sound and disposing mind memory and
understanding duly signed and executed the same in 
their presence as and for his last Will and Testament
Margaret Bridson, Widow of decedent, and the
Executrix therein named is therefore sworn well 
and truly to fulfil and execute said Will according
to Law to pay all just Debts, Legacies and Funeral 
expenses of the said Testator as far forth as the Goods 
and Effects will extend and the Law bind her, to 
return to the Archdeacons Registry a full true and 
perfect Inventory of the same with an accurate account
of her acts and proceedings in the premises when 
thereunto lawfully required and to these ends 
she hath given Pledges namely Robert Bridson 
and William Bridson who have executed a Bond 
to that effect bearing equal date herewith
