Michael 1855 #59 The humble petition of John Cowley of Crammag in the parish of Lezayre and Elizabeth his wife and of Thomas Callister of Lhergy Dhoon the parish of German and Eleanor his wife. Sheweth: That of late to wit on the 24th day of December last past Mrs Margaret Cannell relict of John Cannell of the KerrowGlass in the parish of Michael departed this life but first duly made and published her last will and testament and thereof appointed her two daughters your petitioners joint executrixes. That it is necessary that the said will be received and probate thereof granted and that petitioners John Cowley and Thomas Callister should be sworn administrators with the said will annexed. Wherefore your petitioners pray a hearing hereof and for probate of the will of the said Margaret Cannell and that petitioners be sworn administrators thereof in right of their said wives and they will pray. LaMothe for the petitioners Ordered that this petition do come on to be heard at an Ecclesiastical Court to be holden at Ramsey on Monday the 22 day of January instant whereof all proper parties are to have due notice. I Margaret Cannell alias Kaighen of the KerrooGlass in the parish of Kirk Michael widow, being of sound disposing mind memory and understanding but considering the uncertainty of this mortal life do hereby make and declare this paper writing to be my last will and testament. First I commit my soul to Almighty God and my body to be buried at the directions my executrixes herein after named. Item I leave devise and bequeath unto my daughter Margaret Kaighin wife of Charles Kaighin of the parish of German all and singular my half or moiety of that part and parcel of lands situate in the said parish of Kirk Michael being part of the quarterland of KerrooGlass purchased by my husband John Cannell deceased from John Cannell also deceased and which said lands the whole are of the annual Lords rent of four shillings and six pence or there abouts and now in the possession of me the said Margaret Cannell To Have and to Hold unto her the said Margaret Kaighen her heirs executors administrators the said part and parcel of lands, together with the one half or moiety of the dwelling house and out houses thereon erected and all ways waters watercourses roads and easements to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining from the day of my decease absolutely and forever. Hereby charging and subjecting and encumbering the said lands and premises with the sum of sixty pounds sterling which the said sum of sixty pounds the said Margaret Kaighen her heirs executors administrators or assigns is to pay when she possesses the said lands and premises as a consideration money for the same in manner herein after directed by this my will, free from the control and management of her husband the said Charles Kaighin and the said lands and premises are not to be subject and liable to any debt or debts contracted or which maybe hereinafter contracted by the said Charles Kaighen but are hereby declared to be for the sole behoof and benefit of my daughter the said Margaret Kaighen. Item I leave, devise and bequeath to my daughter Jane the wife of William Camaish of Kirk Michael the one fourth part of the said sixty pounds to be paid by my said daughter Margaret Kaighen as legacy. Also I leave devise and bequeath to my daughter Isabella the wife of Thomas Lace of Lezayre the one fourth part of the said sixty pounds as legacy. Also I leave devise and bequeath to my daughter Eleanor the wife of Thomas Collister of Kirk German the one fourth part of the said sum of sixty pounds as legacy and also I leave devise and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth the wife of John Cowley of Lezarye the one fourth part of the said sum of sixty pounds as legacy to be paid by said daughter Margaret Kaighen and her husband the said Charles Kaighen when possessing the said lands and premises free from the control and management of the husbands of my said several daughters and not to be subject and liable to any debt or debts contracted or which may be hereafter contracted by either of them but it is further my will that the same shall be applied for the sole use behoof and benefit of my said daughters and that their receipts shall be the only discharge for the said legacies respectively. Item I leave devise and bequeath to my grandchildren William Cannan and John Cannan one sheep each as legacy. Item I leave devise and bequeath unto my granddaughter Catherine Kaighen one sheep as legacy. Item: I leave devise and bequeath unto Phillip Kaighen my manservant one sheep as legacy. Also I leave devise and bequeath to my said daughters Jane the wife of William Camaish and Isabella the wife of Thomas Lace the sum of twelve pounds each as legacy free from the control of their husbands and not to be subject and liable to the payment of their debts but said twelve pounds to be paid unto their own hands. Item I leave devise and bequeath to the poor of the parish of Kirk Michael the sum one pound as legacy. Lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said daughters Eleanor the wife of Thomas Collister and Elizabeth the wife of the said John Cowley whole and sole executrixes and residuary legatees of this my last will and testament. Hereby further leaving devising and bequeathing to any person or persons who may claim an interest in this my last will and testament the sum of six pence legacy. Hereby revoking and altering any former will or wills by me before made. In testimony whereof I the said Margaret Cannell have here unto subscribed my name this the Eighteenth day of November the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty four 1854. Margaret Cannell my x mark Signed published and declared by the testatrix in our presence and in the presence of each other who at her request have put our names hereto as witnesses. John Cannell John Kaighin Charles Faragher John Cowley and Thomas Callister sworn in as executors of Margaret Cannell's will 22 Jan 1835. Vicar and Church Wardens received one pound in full payment and satisfaction of the legacy on 30 Apr 1855 Joseph Brown, Vicar John Hadden Church Warden Wm Cowley Church Warden. Jane and William Camaish rec'd 12 pounds 3 Jan 1872. Grandchildren, Catherine Kaighin, John Cannon and William Cannon received sheep 10 Nov 1855. Isabella Lace and Thomas Lace rec'd 12 pounds 3 May 1855. Margaret Kaighen wife of Charles Kaighin of KK German received her legacies 22 Jan 1855 also 15 pounds sterling Probate granted 22 Jan 1855. Eleanor Callister and Thomas Callister rec'd 4 May 1855 their legacy John Cowley and Elizabeth Cowley rec'd legacy 4 May 1855.
