In the name of God Amen.
I Thos Cown of the parish of Bradden being of a sound and disposing mind
memory and understanding and called to mind the uncertainty of this
transitory life do make this my last will and testament in manner and
form following.
First I commit my soul to the mercy of God through the merits of my Saviour
Jesus Christ, and my body to a decent Christian burial.
I leave and bequeath unto all persons that may claim in this my last will
the sum of one shilling each.
And lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my wife Margaret Cown, executor
of this my last will and testament and residuary legatee of all
and  singular the rest and remainder of my goods, chattels and effects being
of what kind name or nature whomsoever.  In witness hereof I have subscribed
my name this the 24th day of Jan 1857.  Thomas Cown Witnesses:

At a Chapter Court held in Douglas on the 12th day of June 1857.
Thomas Kewley and John Cowley the subscribing witnesses to the
foregoing paper writing purporting to be the last will and and testament
of Thomas Cown deceased having made oath upon the holy evangelists
that said Thomas Cown the testator when of sound and disposing mind memory
ad understanding duly signed and executed the same as and for his last will
and testament in their presence.
Margaret Cown the testator's widow and relict - the executrix in said
will named is therefore sworn well and truly to fulfill and execute the
same according to law, to pay all the just debts legacies and funeral
expenses of the said testator so far forth as the goods and effect will
hereto extend and the law bind her and also to return to the Archdeacon's
Registry a full true and perfect inventory of said estate and effect with
an accurate account of her acts and proceedings in the premises when
thereunto lawfully require.  And to these ends she hath given pledges namely
Thomas Kewley and John Cowley who have entered into and executed the  usual
bond in the presence of the court.
