having made oath on the Holy Evangelists that Catharine Lawson the testatrix when 
of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding duly signed and executed the 
same as and for her last Will and Testament in their presence John Moore husband 
of Catharine Kermode the executrix in said Will named  and in right of his said 
wife is therefore sworn well and truly to fulfill and execute the same according
to law to pay all the just debts and legacies and Funeral expenses of said  
testatrix so far forth  as the goods will extend and the law bind him.  And also 
to return to the Episcopal Registry a true and perfect Inventory of said Estate 
and Effects with an accurate account of his Acts and proceedings in the premises 
when thereunto lawfully required.  And to these ends he hath given pledges namely 
William Qualtrough and Thomas Qualtrough who have entered into and executed the 
usual bond in presence of the Court.

This is affirmed to be the last  [too dark to read] (Will and Testament) of 
Catherine Lawson alias Kermode widow of Thomas Lawson lately departed of the 
Shenvalley in the Parish of  KK  Christ Rushen which She the said Catherine Lawson 
made and published on Tuesday evening being the nineteenth day of February in the 
Year of our Lord  One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty Six in presence of  us the 
witnesses and committed to writing at the same time.  She committed her Soul to 
Almighty god and her Body to A Christian Burial.  

She left and bequeathed unto hw  brother Henry Kermode five shillings.

She left and bequeathed unto her brother John [‘s] children five shillings.

She left and bequeathed unto her sister  Jane Taggart  alias Kermode five shillings.

She left and bequeathed unto her sister Elizabeth Collister alias Kermode five shillings.

She left and bequeathed unto her sister Eleonder Kneen alias Kermode five shillings.

She left and bequeathed unto Catherine Kermode  her brother John Kermode [‘s] 
daughter  the Clock the Bed in the Parlour and one half  of the household furniture  
save and except the bed upstairs and what feathers that  be not in beds and the watch.

She left and bequeathed untoThirzah Collister Catherine Kermode[‘s] daughter the 
bed upstairs and the feathers that be not in beds and also the watch  and one 
half of household furniture.

She left and bequeathed unto the Howe and Port [illegible, maybe Iron]  preaching  
Houses ten shillings each.

She left and bequeathed unto the Poor of the parish one pound.

She nominated constituted appointed and ordained the aforesaid Catherine Kermode 
to whole and sole Executrix of all the rest of her goods chattels and effects 
moveable and immoveable whatsoever debarring all other relations with the smallest 
sum the Law will allow as writing my subscription this, the 19th day of February 1856

At a chapter court held in Castletown this 16th day of October 1857 William Qualtrough 
and Thomas Qualtrough the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing paper writing 
purporting to be the Will of Catharine Lawson deceased.

Whereas the Ecclesiastical Court of this Diocese hath this day granted probate of 
the Last Will and Testament of Catharine Lawson late of Rushen deceased, to John 
Moore husband of Catharine the said e[executrix] named in his right of his [said] wife.

And whereas Wm Qualtrough of Corvalla in the Parish of Rushen and Thos Qualtrough 
of Corvalla in the Parish of Rushen have agreed to become pledges for the said 
John Moore for the Due Administration of the said Estate according to law, therefore 
know all men by these presents, that we, the said William Qualtrough and Thomas 
Qualtrough hereby bind  and oblige ourselves and our executors and administrators, 
as pledge for the said John Moore for the due and faithful administration of the 
goods and effects of the said deceased according to law.  And in his default we 
bind ourselves and our Executors and Administrators to be answerable to all parties 
interested in the said Estate, of the Administration thereof.  Witness our 
subscriptions this sixteenth day of October 1857.
