This is the last will and testament of me Jane Kaneen of Ballaseyre in the parish of 
Andreas (Widow).
I leave and bequeath unto every person who could otherwise claim any interest in my 
estate two shillings and six pence legacy –
I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Jane wife of William Christian the sum of Fifty 
pounds legacy –
I leave and bequeath unto my son John Kaneen the sum of two and six pence legacy –
I leave and bequeath unto my son Daniel Kaneen the sum of two hundred and fifty 
pounds and also the horse I may have at my decease –
I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Eleanor wife of John Christory the sum of one 
hundred and forty pounds legacy –
I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Margaret the sum of one hundred & fifty pounds, 
and a cow also a bed & bedding as legacy –
I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah wife of John Sayle the sum of fifty pounds legacy.  
I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Maria wife of Francis Quine the sum of one 
hundred & thirty pounds legacy –
I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Kaneen the sum of one hundred and 
fifty pounds and a feather bed & bedding as legacy –
I leave and bequeath unto my son Charles Patrick Kaneen the sum of one hundred and 
fifty pounds legacy—
I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Louisa Kaneen the sum of two hundred pounds a 
bed and bedding and the cotton Quilt which I received from my daughter Eleanor 
Kaneen also my new oak coloured chest and the whole of my wearing apparel as legacy – 
the beds aforementioned are meant and intended to be feather beds –
I do hereby request and desire that in case any of the property unto me belonging should 
be lost or turn out bad debts and consequently be a loss to my estate that then each of the 
foregoing legatees shall sustain part of the loss in proportion to their respective legacies – 
I leave devise and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my goods and chattels 
rights credits and personal estate of every description unto my son Daniel Kaneen and 
my daughter Margaret Kaneen and my son in Law William Christian their exeors 
admors and assigns and I hereby Nominate constitute appoint and ordain my said son 
Daniel Kaneen, Margaret Kaneen and William Christian joint executors and executrix 
of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former will or wills by me at any 
time heretofore made and declaring this to be my last will and testament  In witness 
whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this twenty first day of October One 
thousand eight hundred & fifty eight

	At a Chapter Court held in Ramsey on the 11th day of May 1860 –
Thomas Martin and John T. Martin the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing paper 
writing purporting to be the will of Jane Kaneen deceased having made Oath upon 
the Holy Evangelists that said Jane Kaneen the Testatrix when of sound and disposing mind 
memory and understanding duly signed and executed the same as and for her last will and 
testament in their presence – Daniel Kaneen and William Christian the Executors and 
Thomas Clarke husband of Margaret Kaneen the Executrix and in right of his said 
wife the Executors and Executrix in said will named are therefore sworn well and truly to 
fulfill and execute said will according to Law by paying all the just debts Legacies and 
Funeral expenses of said deceased so far forth as the goods and effects will thereto extend 
and the law bind them to return to the Archdeacon’s Registry a full true and perfect 
Inventory of said Estate and Effects with an accurate account of their acts and 
proceedings in the premises when thereunto lawfully required and to these ends they have 
given pledges namely John C. Goldsmith and Thomas Clarke who have entered into and 
executed the usual Bond in presence of the court. –

Know all men by these presents that Louisa Kaneen of the parish of Andreas a minor by 
John Sayle her duly authorized and appointed guardian doth hereby acknowledge that she 
has received from Daniel Kaneen Thomas Clarke and William Christian Executors of the 
Will of Jane Kaneen deceased, by decd of assignment on the lands of Thomas Clarke the 
full and just sum of two hundred pounds, being in full discharge of a certain legacy left & 
bequeathed to the sd Louisa Kaneen in and by the sd Will bearing date the 21st day of 
October 1858 and the sd Louisa Kaneen by her guardian John Sayle doth acquit release 
and discharge the sd Daniel Kaneen Thomas Clarke, and William Christian and each and 
every of them, from all further claim or demand against the sd Estate or under the sd Will 
and she doth desire and direct that the Will so for as respects the sd legacies be and stand 
cancelled on the Registry  Witness his subscription thereto by her afsd guardian this 13th 
day of Dec 1868

WHEREAS the Ecclesiastical Court of this Diocese hat h this day granted Probate of the 
last Will and Testament of Jane Kaneen – deceased, to William Christian Daniel Kaneen 
& Thos Clarke in right of his wife Margaret Clarke –

AND WHEREAS T. Clarke of Ballasyre
In the Parish of Andreas and John C. Goldsmith of Ramsey in the Parish of Maughold 
have agreed to become pledges for the said W. Christian D Kaneen Thomas Clarke, for 
the due administration of the said Estate according to law.

Therefore know all men by these Presents, that we, the said Thomas Clarke and John C. 
Goldsmith hereby bind and oblige ourselves and our Executors and Administrators, as 
pledges for the said W. Christian D. Kaneen & Thomas Clarke for the due and faithful 
administration of the goods and effects of the said deceased according to law. And in 
their default we bind ourselves and our Executors and Administrators to be answerable to 
all parties interested in the said Estate, or the Administration thereof.  

Witness our subscriptions this 11th day of May 1860

Know all men by these presents that Charles Patrick Kaneen son of Jane Kaneen late 
deceased doth hereby acknowledge that he has received from Daniel Kaneen Thomas 
Clarke and William Christian executors of the will of Jane Kaneen the sum of one 
hundred and fifty pounds sterling being in full discharge of the amount of a legacy 
bequeathed to him in and by the Last Will & Testament of the sd Jane Kaneen dated the 
21st  day of October 1858 and he the sd Charles P. Kaneen doth acquit release and 
discharge the sd Daniel Kaneen Thomas Clarke and William Christian and each and every 
of them from all further claim or demand under the sd Will of Jane Kaneen and he doth 
desire and direct that the sd Will so far as respects the sd legacy be and stand cancelled on

Jane Kaneen doth hereby own and acknowledge that Daniel Kaneen, William Christian 
and Thomas Clarke executors of the last will and Testament of Jane Kaneen decd bearing 
date the 21st day of October 1858 have paid her the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds 
being the amount of a legacy left and bequeathed to her by her mother Jane Kaneen in and 
by her sd Will dated as afsd And the sd Elizabeth Kaneen doth hereby acquit release and 
discharge the sd Daniel Kaneen William Christian and Thomas Clarke and their exors 
admors and assigns from all further claim or demand under the sd Will, and she doth 
desire and direct that the sd Will so far as respects the sd legacy be and stand cancelled on

Draper and Maria Quine alias Kaneen his wife do hereby own and acknowledge that 
they have received from Daniel Kaneen Thomas Clarke and William Christian executors 
of the last will and testament of Jane Kaneen decd bearing date the 21st day of October 
1858, the sum of one hundred and thirty pounds sterling being in full discharge of a 
certain legacy left and bequeathed to the sd Maria Quine in and by the sd will of Jane 
Kaneen dated as afsd and they do acquit exonerate and discharge them the sd Daniel 
Kaneen Thomas Clarke and William Christian and each and every of them from all future 
claims or demand against the estate of the sd Jane Kaneen or under the sd will and they do 
direct and desire that the sd will so far as respects the sd legacy be and stand cancelled on 
record

hereby acknowledge that he has received from Daniel Kaneen Thomas Clarke and 
William Christian executors of the Will of Jane Kaneen the sum of fifty pounds being in 
full discharge of the amount of a legacy left and bequeathed to him in and by the Last 
Will and Testament of the sd Jane Kaneen dated the 21d day of October 1858 –
And the sd John Sayle doth acquit release and discharge the sd Daniel Kaneen Thomas 
Clarke and William Christian and each and every of them from all further claim or 
demand under the sd will of Jane Kaneen and he doth desire and direct that the same so 
far as the sd legacy is concerned be and stand cancelled on record.  As witness his

one of the executors of the will of Jane Kaneen and husband of Margaret Kaneen doth 
hereby acknowledge that he has received from Daniel Kaneen and William Christian his 
co-executors the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds sterling being in full discharge of 
the amount of a specific legacy bequeathed to the sd Margaret Clarke in and by the will of 
the sd Jane Kaneen dated the 21st day of October 1858 and Thomas Clarke doth hereby 
for himself and which also of his wife afs exonerate and discharge the sd Danl Kaneen 
and William Christian his co-executors from all further claim or demand against the sd 
estate so far as respects the sd specific legacy as witness his subscription hereto his 13th

but now in the Isle of Man and Ellen Chrystory Alias Kaneen his wife, do hereby 
acknowledge that they have received from Daniel Kaneen William Christian and Thomas 
Clarke executors of the will of Jane Kaneen late of Ballaseyre decd the sum of one 
hundred and forty pounds sterling being in full discharge of the amount of a legacy left to 
her the Ellen Chrystory in and by the will of her mother Jane Kaneen dated the 21st day of 
October 1858 – And they the sd­ John Christory and Ellen Chrystory do acquit release and 
discharge the sd Daniel Kaneen William Chrystory and Thomas Clarke their Exers and 
Admors from all further claim or demand under the will of the sd Jane Kaneen and they 
do desire and direct that the sd will

of his mother Jane Kaneen decd doth hereby own and acknowledge that he has received 
from Thomas Clarke and William Christian his co-executors the full sum of two hundred 
and fifty pounds sterlg in full discharge of a specific legacy of that amount left to him in 
and by the last will and testament of his mother Jane Kaneen dated the 21st day of 
October 1858 – And the sd Daniel Kaneen doth acquit release and discharge the sd estate 
and his sd co-executors from all further claim or demand for or on account of the sd 
specific legacy of two hundred and fifty pounds and he doth desire and direct that the 
same be and stand cancelled as witness his subscription hereto this 14th day of December

Know all men by these presents that William Christian of Ballacozey one of the joint 
executors of the will of Jane Kaneen late of the parish of Andreas doth hereby own and 
acknowledge that he has received from Daniel Kaneen and Thomas Clarke his co-
executors the sum of Fifty Pounds that being in full discharge of a specific legacy left and 
bequeathed to Jane Christian alias Kaneen in and by the last will and testament of Jane 
Kaneen dated the 21d day of October 1858.  And the sd William Christian doth acquit 
release and discharge the sd estate and the executors presents their execrs admos and 
assgns from all further claim or demand so far as respects the sd specific legacy of fifty 
pounds and he doth desire and direct that the sd legacy be and stand cancelled on Record 
as witness his subscription hereto this 15th day of December 1860 –
