Braddan To the Worshipful Thomas Arthur Corlett Vicar General of this Island The humble Petition of John Jefferson Gentleman, of the Town of Douglas Sheweth That on the fourteenth day of April instant George Jefferson of the Town of Douglas aforesaid Gentleman (father of your Petitioner John Jefferson) departed this life intestate and it is necessary that administration of his estate and effects should be granted forthwith to some fit and proper person or persons. Therefore your Petitioner hereby prays a hearing hereof and that your Worship will be pleased to appoint your Petr. or some other fit and proper person or persons administrator of the estate and effects of the said George Jefferson and your Petitioner will pray. Thos. C. Callow for Petitioner Ordered that this Petition do come on to be heard at an Ecclesiastical Court to be holden at Ramsey this day whereof all proper parties and persons to have due notice. Given this 27th April 1860 At a special Ecclesiastical Court holden at Ramsey the 28th April 1860 Upon hearing this petition in presence of the parties or their advocates and it appearing that George Jefferson late of the Town of Douglas some short time ago departed this life Intestate leaving issue namely Catherine Hawley wife of William Hawley Elinor Eliza Jefferson and George Jenkins Jefferson Martha Wilson wife of Wilfred Wilson resident off this Isle and the Petr. who are therefore decreed sole administrators of all and singular the Goods Rights Credits Chattels and Effects of the sd. decd. and the Petitioner is sworn in trust well and truly to administer the Estate and Effects of the sd. decd. according to Law to pay all just debts and funeral expenses of the sd. decd. so far forth as his Goods will extend and the Law bind him to return a true and faithful Inventory thereof with an accurate account of his acts and proceedings in the premises to the Episcopal Registry when thereunto lawfully required and to these ends he has given pledges namely the Rev. W. Kermode and the Rev. W. Hawley who have entered into and executed the usual Bond in presence of the Court. Decretum Est. T.A. Corlett Whereas the Ecclesiastical Court of this Diocese has this day granted administration of all and singular the personal Estate and Effects of the late George Jefferson of the Town of Douglas deceased to John Jefferson one of the sons of the said deceased In Trust for his brothers and sisters. And whereas the Reverend William Kermode, Chaplain of said Parish Ramsey, and the said Reverend William Hawley Chaplain of St. Georges in the Town of Douglas have agreed to become pledges for the said John Jefferson for the due and faithful administration of the estate and Effects of the said deceased according to Law, and in default of the said John Jefferson not duly administrating the said Estate, they the said William Kermode and William Hawley bind themselves their executors and administrators jointly by these presents. As Witness their subscriptions this 28th April 1860. At an Eccl. Court held in Ramsey William Kermode 28th April 1860 William Hawley Taken before me T.A. Corlett Estate of George Jefferson Esq. decd. We, the undersigned next of kin of George Jefferson deceased request you to appear for us in the Vicar General’s Court holden in Ramsey this day and consent to John Jefferson being approved administrator in trust of the estate and effects of the said George Jefferson.
