              To the Worshipful Thomas Arthur Corlett
              Vicar General of this Diocese of
              Sodor and Mann
 
              The humble petition of Edward
              Christian of Ballakaighin in 
              the parish of Conchan
 
Sheweth
            
              That about a year ago Edward Christian
  formerly of Douglas Master Mariner departed this
  life whilst on a voyage to the Coast of Africa intestate
  departed this life intestate.
 
              That at the time of his death he was
   entitled to personal estate and in order to the
   settlement of his affairs it is necessary that
   administration of his estate and effects be
   granted to some proper person.
 
              That Petr. is a first cousin of the deceased
   and he along with his sister Ann Christian otherwise
   Oates wife of Edward Oates of the Union Inn in the 
   parish of Lonan, and Margaret Christian of London
   are the persons entitled to the personal estate of the 
   said intestate and to administration of his estate
   as his next of kin.
 
               Wherefore Petr. humbly prays a
               hearing hereof and that your Worship
               may be pleased to grant to Petr. or
               to some other fit and proper person
               letters of administration of the Estate
               and Effects of the said deceased 
               and Petr. will pray.

WHEREAS the Ecclesiastical Court of this Diocese 
hath this day granted administration of all
and singular the goods and effects of Edward Christian
deceased, to Ed. Christian.
 
AND WHEREAS Thos. Quayle of Douglas
in the Parish of Braddan and R. .......wood Esq.
of Douglas in the Parish of Braddan have agreed
to become pledges for the said Ed. Christian for the due administration
of the said Estate according to Law.
 
Therefore know all men by these Presents, that we, the said T. Quayle
and R. ______wood hereby bind and oblige
ourselves and our Executors and Administrators, as pledges for the said Ed. Christian
for the due and faithful administration of the goods and
effects of the said deceased according to law.  And in his default we bind ourselves and our Executors
and Administrators to be answerable to all parties interested in the said Estate, or the Administration thereof.
Witness our subscription the 16 day of March 1860

before me at an Ecclesiastical Court to be held in Douglas

due notice.

the 16th March 1860
 
Upon hearing this petition in presence of the
parties or their advocates and it appearing
that Edward Christian departed this life Intestate
leaving Ann Oates wife of Edward Oates Margaret
Christian resident off this Island and Petitioner his
only next of kin him surviving who are therefore
decreed joint administrators of all and singular
the Goods Rights Credits Chattels and Effects of
the sd. decd. and the Petitioner being recommended 
as a fit and proper person to administer the sd. Estate
he is therefore sworn in Trust well and truly to
administer the Estate and Effects of the sd. decd.
according to Law to pay all just debts and
funeral expenses of the deceased so far forth as 
his Goods will extend and the law bind him, to
return a true and faithful Inventory thereof with an
accurate account of his acts and proceedings in the
premises to the Episcopal Registry when thereunto 
lawfully required and to these ends he has given
pledges namely Richard ....wood Esq. and Thomas
Quayle who have entered into and executed the usual Bond
in presence of the Court.           Decretum Est.

Upon hearing this cause in presence of the parties
or their advocates I am of opinion that the
Pltffs. are entitled to recover from the Deft. the
sum of Twenty pounds eleven shillings and
three pence on account of their distributive
share of the Estate of Edward Christian decd.
without prejudice.  Ordered therefore that the sd.
Deft. do forthwith pay the sd. amount.
