75       Maughold 
This is the last will and testament of Thomas Callow of Ballakeig vig in
the parish of Maughold he being sick and feeble in body but of perfect
mind and memory at the making hereof thanks be to God for the same hereby
revoking and setting aside all wills by me made previous to the
date hereof.
First I commit my soul to God and my body to a Christian burial.
I leave and bequeath to my son Thomas Callow my moiety of my estate of
Ballaskeig vig in the parish of Maughold aforesaid.  Also my moiety of
the dwelling house and out offices to the same belonging.  He the said
Thomas Callow my son is not to possess the said lands and houses until
at and after the expiration of ten years from the date hereof for which
lands and houses he the said Thomas Callow my son is to pay unto his sister
Mary Callow my daughter the sum of thirty pounds sterling to be paid unto
her the said Mary Callow at the time he the said Thomas
Callow shall possess the said lands and houses but in case he the said
Thomas Callow doth refuse or deny to pay the said sum of thirty pounds unto
his sister the said Mary Callow he the said Thomas is not to have
any title or claim on the said lands and houses at the said expiration of
ten years or forever but in that case I leave and bequeath to her my said
daughter Mary Callow my said moiety of my estate of Ballaskeig Veg aforesaid
but if he the said Thomas Callow doth pay her the said Mary Callow the said
sum of thirty pounds sterling then she the said Mary
Callow is not to have any title or claim on the said estate of Ballaskeig
Vig whatsoever.  My said moiety of my estate of Ballaskeig eig aforesaid
together with my moiety of said houses to be possess by my executrix during
the said term of ten years from the date hereof.
I leave and bequeath to my seven children the sum of five shillings each.
Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my beloved wife Jane Callows whole
and sole executrix and residuary legatee of all the rest of my
worldly goods and effects moveable and immoveable of whatever nature
or description and that she the said Jane Callow my executrix is to send our
two youngest sons namely James Callow and Edward Callow to
proper trades and to provide for them during their apprenticeships.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this the 3rd day of

At a Chapter Court held in Ramsey on the 31st day of May 1861.
Thomas Corteen and Edward Corteen the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing
paper writing purporting to be the will of Thomas Callow deceased having
made oath upon the Holy Evangelists that said Thomas Callow the testator
when of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding duly signed and
executed the same as and for his last will and testament in their presence
Jane Callow the testator's widow the
sole executrix in said will named is therefore sworn well and truly to
fulfill and execute the same and to administer all and singular the
personal estate and effects of the said deceased according to law by paying
the just debts and and funeral expenses of the deceased and the legacies
contained in his will so far forth as the  same will thereto
extend and the law bind her and to return to the Archdeacon's Registry a
full true and perfect inventory of all and singular said estate and effects
with an accurate account of her acts and proceedings in the premises when
thereunto lawfully required.  And to these ends she hath given pledges
namely Thomas Corteen and John Kissack who have entered into and executed
the usual bond in presence of the court.

Whereas Thomas Callow of Ballaskeig Veg in the parish of Maughold deceased
in and by his last will and testament bearing date the 3rd day
of April 1861 did amongst other legacies and bequests therein contained give
leave and bequeath unto his son Thomas Callow his moiety of his estate of
Ballaskeig Veg situate in the parish of Maughold aforesaid together with his
moiety of all the houses on the said estate erected but subject however
amongst other bindings and obligations to the payment
of thirty pounds sterling to his sister Mary Callow which payment was
to be made unto her the said Mary Callow at the expiration of ten  years
from the date of said will being the time and period set forth by the said
will He the said Thomas Callow the son was to possess the said lands
and houses And  whereas such time and period has arrived and passed by Now
therefore Know all Men by These Presents that  I Mary Callow of Ballaskeig
Veg in the parish of Maughold aforesaid do hereby confess and acknowledge
that I have had and received from my brother the said Thomas Callow the sum
of thirty pounds sterling.  The same being the thirty pounds left and proved
for me by my father the said Thomas
Callow deceased in and by his last will and testament dated as aforesaid and
made chargeable upon my brother the said Thomas Callow to pay me. And I do
by these presents acquit release and discharge the said Thomas Callow, my
brother, of and from the same and all and every other claim
and demand whatsoever which I my executors and administrators can make
against the said Thomas Callow my brother by virtue of the said
last will and testament of the said Thomas Callow deceased. And I do hereby
request that the  said sum of thirty pounds may be and stand cancelled upon
the said will upon record. In witness whereof I the said
Mary Callow have hereunto subscribed my name this the 14th day of February
one thousand eight hundred and seventy four.    Mary Callow Signed and
delivered in presence of Edward Corteen and William Callow
At Ramsey 1st June 1874 Edward Corteen one of the subscribing witnesses of
the execution of the foregoing instrument who is known by me made oath that
Mary Callow the executing party thereby duly
executed the same in presence of this deponent and in presence of
William Callow the other subscribing witness thereto.

Received at the Archdeacon's Registry from Thomas Callow and recorded this
1st day of July 1874.

Whereas the Ecclesiastical Court of this Diocese hath this day granted
Probate of the last will and testament of Thomas Callow deceased, to
Jane Callow.
And whereas Thomas Corteen of Ballacorteen in the parish of Maughold
and John Kissack of Ballagorry in the parish of Maughold have agreed to
become pledges for the said Jane Callow for the due administration of
the said Estate according to law.
Therefore know all men by these Presents, that we, the said Thomas Corteen
and John Kissack hereby bind and oblige ourselves and our Executors and
Administrators, as pledges for the said Jane Callow for
the due and faithful administration of the goods and effects of the said
deceased according to law.  And in her default we bind ourselves and our
executors and Administrators to be answerable to all parties
interested in the said Estate, or the Administration thereof.
Witness our subscriptions this 31st day of May 1861.
