Rushen 1865 134 This is the last will and testament of me William Gawne of Glendown in the parish of Rushen being of sound mind and memory at the making hereof and hereby revoking all former wills made by me. I bequeath unto my daughter Jane Taubman the sum of one pound. I bequeath unto my daughter Catharine Keggin the sum of one pound. I bequeath unto my grandson James Gawne the sum of ten pounds. I bequeath unto my grandson John Thomas Gawne the sum of ten pounds. I bequeath unto my granddaughter Catherine Gawne the sum of ten pounds. I bequeath unto my granddaughter Eleanor Gawne the sum of ten pounds also my feather bed and bedding and my sofa. I bequeath unto the Vicar and Warden's of Rushen in trust for the poor of the said parish of Rushen the sum of two pounds. I leave and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my goods and effects, bonds, bills, notes, chattels, and estate of every description unto my son and heir William Gawne and I nominate and appoint my son the said William Gawne executor of this my last will and testament as witnesses my name this 24 day of May one thousand eight hundred and sixty four. William Gawne x my mark Witnesses: Alexander Gray John Qualtrough. 15 Dec 1865 William Gawne sworn as executor with pledges being Alexander Gray and John Qualtrough both of the parish of Rushen. Whereas William Gawne, sometime of Glendown in the parish of Rushen but now deceased, did duly make and publish his last will and testament whereof he nominated and appointed his son William Gawne to be sole executor. And whereas the said will was duly proved at an Eccl Court holden at Castletown on the 15th day of December 1865, and probate thereof was granted to the said William Gawne (also of Glendown in the said parish of Rushen) who was duly sworn executor of the said will. And whereas (amongst other legacies the testator William Gawne did leave and bequeath the following pecuniary legacies to his four grand children sons and daughters of the said William Gawne the younger the executor of the said will namely to the testators grandson, James Gawne, the sum of ten pounds; to his grandson John Thomas Gawne, the sum of ten pounds; to his grand daughter Catherine Gawne, the sum of ten pounds; and to his granddaughter Eleanor Gawne the sum of ten pounds. And whereas the said Catherine Gawne has since intermarried with and is now the wife of John Moore of Port Saint Mary in the parish of Rushen aforesaid, joiner; and the said Eleanor Gawne has since also intermarried with and is now the wife of Thomas Watterson of the said parish of Rushen. And whereas the whole of the said four legacies have been fully paid and satisfied to the several parties by the said William Gawne the executor of the said will of William Gawne the elder. Know all men therefore by these presents that the said James Gawne and John Thomas Gawne and John Moore and Catherine Moore, (formerly Gawne) his wife, and Thomas Watterson and Eleanor Watterson (formerly Gawne) his wife, do and each of them doth hereby severally own and acknowledge that they and each of them have received from and been paid by William Gawen executor of the will of William Gawne, deceased, the several amounts of the said pecuniary legacies of ten pounds each left to the said James Gawne, John Thomas Gawne, Catherine Gawne, and Eleanor Gawne in and by the said will and they and each of them do hereby exonerate discharge and release the said William Gawne executor as aforesaid, and the estate of the said William Gawne, deceased, from all further claim liability or demand in respect of the said four legacies or either of them in anywise whatsoever. In witness whereof the said James Gawne, John Thomas Gawne, John Moore and Catherine Moore his wife, and Thomas Watterson and Eleanor Watterson his wife have hereunto subscribed their names this 30th day of December 1880.
