76      Braddan
I ISABELLA OATES of the parish of Braddan, spinster, 
do hereby make and publish this my last will and testament 
in form and manner following: 
I leave and devise unto my MOTHER CATHARINE OATES all my 
right, title and interest in and unto the one undivided 
half or moiety of a certain dwelling house, yards and 
premises situated in Chester Street in the Town of Douglas 
and to which I am entitled under the will of my late AUNT 
CATHARINE CUBBON.  Probate of same will is dated the 
14 December 1865.  To hold the same unto the same CATHARINE 
OATES HER HUSBAND assigns forever this 14 October 1871.  
I do hereby revoke any will or wills by me heretofore made.

AT A SPECIAL ECCLESIASTICAL COURT HELD, 
we THOMAS DRURY one of the subscribing witnesses to the execution 
of the foregoing paper writing purporting to be the last will and 
testament of ISABELLA OATES late of the parish of Braddan, spinster, 
deceased, having made oath on the Holy Evangelists that said 
testatrix Isabella Oates when of sound and disposing mind, memory 
and understanding, duly signed and acknowledged the same as and for 
her last will and testament in his presence and at the same time in 
the presence of JOHN LOWE DRURY the other subscribing witness to 
such execution and that they at the same time in the presence of 
the said testatrix and of each other subscribed the same in attestation 
thereof.  And there being no executor appointed therein, this Court 
hath therefore granted Letters of Administration (with her said 
will ornueseec[?]) of all and singular the estate and effects of 
the said Isabella Oates deceased unto her natural and lawful FATHER 
EDWARD OATES and accordingly he is sworn well and truly to administer 
the same in terms of the will and according to Law, by paying the 
just debts and funeral expenses of the deceased and the legacies 
contained in her said will s far forth as her estate and effects 
will thereto extend and the law bind him, and to return to the 
Archdeacon's Registry of the Isle of Mann a full true and perfect 
inventor of all and singular the said estate and effects with an 
accurate account of his administration thereof when thereunto 
lawfully required and to these ends he hath given pledges namely 
Thomas Drury of Snugboro and John Cubbon of the town of Douglas, 
both in the parish of Braddan, who have entered into and executed 
the usual bond in the presence of the Court.    

TO HIS WORSHIP THOMAS CHESLYN CALLOW, ESQUIRE, Archdeacon's Official etc., 
the humble petition of EDWARD OATES of the parish of Braddan, 
farmer, Sheweth, that your petitioner's DAUGHTER ISABELLA OATES 
departed this life on or about the 13th day of December 1871, 
having first made and published her last will and testament in 
writing, That the said Isabella Oates did not in the said will 
nominate any person as Executor thereof and as it is necessary 
that the said will should be proved in due form of Law, your 
petitioner is desiring that administration with the said will 
annexed of the estate of the said Isabella Oates should be granted 
to your petitioner.  
Wherefore petitioner humbly prays a reviewing hereof, and that 
administration with the said will annexed, of the estate of the 
said Isabella Oates should be granted to your petitioner and 
petitioner will ever pray etc.    

ORDERED THAT THIS PETITION DO come on to be heard at a special 
Ecclesiastical Court to be held at Douglas this 2nd day of 
November 1872 at three o'clock in afternoon, all parties concerned 
consenting given at at Douglas this 2nd November 1872.

AT A SPECIAL ECCLESIASTICAL COURT HELD AT Douglas 
on the 2nd day of November 1872, 
Upon hearing this petition in the presence of the parties or 
their advocates, and upon proof of the lawful execution thereof 
being had, and there being no executor named therein, Letters 
of Administration (with the will annexed) of the Estate of 
ISABELLA OATES late of the parish of Braddan, spinster deceased, 
was granted to the petitioner EDWARD OATES.

WHEREAS THE ECCLESIASTICAL COURT OF THIS ISLE and Diocese of 
Sodor and Mann hath this day granted administration of the will 
of ISABELLA OATES late of Ballafletcher in the Parish of 
Braddan deceased, to EDWARD OATES HER FATHER, And whereas THOMAS 
DRURY of Snugbone[?] in the Parish of Braddan and JOHN CUBBON 
of Douglas in the Parish of Braddan, have agreed to become 
pledges for the due and faithful administration of the said 
estate by the said EDWARD OATES according to law.  
Now, know all men by these presents, that we, the said Thomas 
Drury and John Cubbon hereby find and oblige ourselves jointly 
and severally, and our heirs, executors, and administrators, 
firmly by these presents, as pledges for the said Edward Oates 
that he shall well and truly administer, all and singular, 
the personal estate and effects of the said deceased according 
to Law.  And in his default we bind ourselves and each of us, 
our heirs, executors and administrators, to be answerable and 
responsible for the whole to the said Court, and to al parties 
interested in the said Estate and Effects, or the administration 
thereof, in place and stead of the said Edward Oates.  
Witness our subscriptions this 2 day November in the year of 
our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy two.
