JAMES LAWSON SANTON 1873 No 47 To his Worship Richard Jebb Esq Vicar General etc etc etc The humble petition of John Kaighen of the parish of Santon and Elizabeth Fargher otherwise Lawson his wife and of Jane Mc Lusty otherwise Lawson of Ballasalla in the parish of Malew widow Sheweth That James Lawson of the said Parish of Santon departed this life on or about the 21 day of May 1873 having first duly made and published his last Will and testament dated the 9 October 1869 Whereof he appointed your petitioner Elizabeth sole Executrix. That it is necessary that the said Will should be proved That the only next of Kin of the said James Lawsn are his two daughters your Petitioner Elizabeth and Jane and one son James Lawson who resides off the Island. Wheefore your Petitioner humbly pray a hearing hereof and that the said Will may be proved and probate thereof granted to the said John Fargher in right of his said wife Elizabeth Fargher and that they may have such other relief as is meet and they will pray etc ..... Gill for the Petitioner Ordered that this Petition do come on to be heard at an Ecclesiastical Court to be held in Castle Rushen on Friday the soth day of June Instant at the hour of 11 o'clock forenoon. Probate of the Will of James Lawson late of Newtown in the parish of Santon deceased, was granted to the petitioners John Fargher husband of Elizabeth Fargher the daughter of the Testator the Executrix in said Will named and in right of his said wife as prayed for R Jebb

In the name of GOD, Amen. I James Lawson of the parish of Santan being of sound mind, memory and understanding aththe making hereof do make publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in way and manner following :- First, I commend my Soul to Almighty God and my body to a Christian burial. I leave and bequeath to my son James the sum of one shilling. I leave and bequeath to my daughter Jane the sum of one shilling. I nominate constitute and appoint my daughter Elizabeth (wife of John Fargher)my whole and sole Executrix of the whole of my goods and effects of what nature soever they may be, as witness my name this 9th day of October, one thousand eight hundred and sixty nine 1869. Signed in our } presence } James Lawson my X mk Cleave Kinley } Henry Fargher my X mk } At an Ecclesiastical Court held at Castletown on the 20th day of June 1873 Cleave Kinley and Henry Fargher the subscribing Witnesses to the execution of the foregoing paper writing purporting to be the last Will and testament of James lawson late fo the parish of Santon deceased having made Oath on the Holy Evanghilists that the said testator James Lawson when of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding duly signed and acknowledged the same as and for his last Will and Testament in their presence and that they at the same time in the presence of the said Testator and of each other subscribed the same in attestation there0f. John Fargher husband of Elizabeth Fargher the daughter of the Testator the Executrix in said Will named and in right of his said wife is therefore sworn well and truly to fulfil and execute said Will and to administer all and sigular the personal estate and effects of thesaid deceased according to Law by paying the just debts and funeral expenses of the deceased and the Legacies conained in his Will as far forth as his estate and effectw will thereto extend and the Law bind him and to return to the Episcopal Registry of the Diocese of Sodor and Mann a full true and perfect inventory of all and sigular the said estate and effects with an accurate account of his administration thereof when thereunt lawfully required and to these ends he hath given pledges namely Cleave Kinley of Ballahowin andHenry Fargher of Newtown both in the parish of Santan who have entered into and executed the usual Bond in the presence of the Court.
