NOTE: The will is listed in the old Typed Index as 'James Dowell'. This appears to be a name that morphed over the years, 
first being written as 'Doell' in the 1630s, quickly becoming 'Dowell', and then in the 1680s, as 'Nowell'. 

Marown April ye 3th 1686 This afirmed to be ye last will & teastament of James Dowell ----[dark] departed this life ye Aprell 3rd, first he bequeathed his soul to God & his body to Christian buriall, It: to his wife all such goods he had after his Debts weare paid & shee to keepe the children & if shee kept not the sd children then shee to give all his pte of goods to ye sd children viz: Robt, Joh: , & Margrett Dowell, It: to his eldest son Willm: Dowell one sheepe & his three children aforesd eecutors of all ye rest of his goods moveable & unmoveable witnesse pbatum est ut Sequitur et Solvit 6d Gilbt: Kelley } jurati Joh: Kelley } A true Inventorie of ye goods of James Dowell which comes to one pounde & two shillings ........ 1£ - 2s - 0d The wife being promised five shillings by Wm: Nowell ye eldest son of ye deceadt: by a former wife, & 5s more being promised by ye relations of the father in ye face of ye Court towards ye maintenance of ye three young children & yt they be not burdened with ym, she ye said wife hath accepted of ye Executorship Administration according to ye will, and hath taken her oath to be Supervisor of her children according to Law, who hath given pledges in forme of Law, John Moore & Willm: Moore.
