Archdeacon Will 1689A #035 Arbory will of John Knickle OR Kneale, cooper, died 19 December 1689:  
Summary: wife Ellin Duccan (died the same time, her will ArW 1689A #036 Arbory), son William (of age by 1699), dau Ann (of age by 1699), supervisors: William 
Norris & William Duckan / Duggan (brother of wife Ellin) & Thomas Costeen (married xxxx [?Jane, EpW 1699]  Duccan) & John Kewn; owed a debt to John Knickle in 
Newtown, Ireland; witnesses to will: William Norris & John Fargher, witnesses to letter: John Maddrell shoemaker & Richard Clague; pledges William Cubbon & 
Thomas Moore & William Shimmin & John Qua----; also: William Norris of Bemacan.
NOTE, see below. This may be an example of some of the family changing their surnam from 'Knickle' to 'Kneale'.
NOTE: The will records the Testator as 'John Kneal', but later notes regarding the acceptance of legacies by the children record his name as 'John Kneagle/Kneakle', 
which is the same as John Knickle. Supporting the conclusion that the testator's surname is Knickle is a review of the Manorial Rolls of the 1600s in Arbory: No 
surname 'Kneale' is found, but several 'Knakill' / Knickle: John & Gilbert & Edmund & William & Nicholas & & Richard & Joney & Ann. One William Kneale is recorded 
in the 1704 Composition Book, Arbory, indicating he was entered for intack land of 2d rent & compounded for in 1643 by 'William Kneale' with Catharine Tyldesley 
compounding for 1 1/2d rent (joint rent on the same piece of intack), but the 1643 listing is William Knaikill for 3 1/2d.  He was also entered for another 1d rent 
at the Grinney more per 1704.

1658 Liber Vastarum, Arbory: Thomas Kinnish was entered for intack land of 1d rent, but he was dead, and the rent 
fell due to William Knakill who sold it to Thomas Norris, who was entered for it in 1658.
1660 Composition Book, Arbory: Richard Knakill held a parcel of intacks for the lives of his son Richard & of Isabel his wife & John his son, 
all lives in being, paid fine 12d and rent 2d granted in 1644.
1666 Composition Book, Arbory: Mr Thomas Norris deemster was entered for 1d of the 3 1/2d rent last compounded for by William Knakell (insert:'which 
was Thos Knakell'), term 3 lives in being now only to --- ye said lives & to hold for the lives of his sons Thomas & William & Henry.
1704 Composition Book, Arbory: Ballafadda treen:  Gilbert Curghey fwas entered for 7s 8d & John Knickle for 3s, being the 4th part of a quarter of land compounded 
for in the year 1643, only 3s by Nicholas Keig, fine for the same was 4s 6d, Lives expired so now to pay for the said 3s rent. And the other 7s 8d, no composition 
appears for the same.  
1704 Composition Book, Arbory: Ancient intacks formerly charged in the Quarterlands: William Kneale was entered for 2d more in the said place and 1d at the Grinney 
more, of all which rents were compounded by William Kneall [sic, William Knickle] in the year 1643, 3 1/2d rent; fine for the same was 12d, and the other 1 1/2d 
was compounded for in 1643 by Catharine Tyldesley, fine for the same was 5d; the lives dead on both compositions so now to pay in proportion among them. NOTE, the 
penny upon William Kneale in Grenny more had not been previously compounded for, fine the same 3d.
1704 Composition Book, Arbory: Ancient intacks formerly charged in the Quarterlands: Richark Knakill was entered for a house & croft adjoining to William Tyldesley's 
land of 3d rent, of which 2d was compounded by Richard Knakill & Henry Quiggin in 1643; fine then was 12d, Lives dead so to pay for the said 2d.

KK Arbory Decembr: 14th 1689 Knickle OR The last will and Testamt: of John Kneal who departed this life the 19th of Decembr: being sick in body but of perfect memory praised be God for the same: Imprs: he committed his soule to God and his body to X?ian burriall; Ittm he declared twenty shillings due to Willm: Cubbon Ballekegg; Ittm: he left all the house and the garden with consent of his wife to his son William; Ittm he left the other house and garden if it could be possible, wch lyes westward to his daughter Ann; Ittm It is to be understood that the piece of the garden wch he bought of Thomas Karran he left to his daughter Anne; Ittm he nominated & appointed his wife Ellen Duccan exec: and she to be true to the children; Ittm he delcard three shillings and sixe pence due from Yorkshire John the mason witnesses Wm: Norris X} pbatum est et Solvit et Jo: Ffargher X} infru
